We also have our own ponds and fish, so bring your rope, your hiking shoes, your bike, your fishing rod or your hammock! Your dogs will also love it – and they will be exhausted by the end of the weekend! Tegwaan is also an ideal stopover for travellers: being just a few kms off the N4 on a good road, just halfway between Jo’burg and Kruger National Park, it’s an easily accessible place to break up the drive and enjoy a properly relaxing day by the pool, followed by a braai under the stars and an evening by the fire. Tegwaan has one house and two cottages over 34ha of land, so you’ll always have privacy and quietness. It’s mostly self-catering for now, but inquire about our locally-made breakfasts if you’re interested! – The Pine Cottage – The Pine Cottage is nested in a cosy little pine grove overlooking the Rock Fairies river. It can accommodate 6 people and so is ideal for big families or groups of friends: there’s one master bedroom (en-suite with tub and shower), one twin bedroom (en-suite with shower) and one room with two bunks. The rest of the cottage is open-plan, with the living room opening up to a naturally shaded patio with pic-nic table and braai area. The kitchen is almost fully-equipped: there’s no oven and no dishwasher but housekeeping is included each morning. – Also on the property – The cottage is all yours, but obviously you’re welcome to enjoy the rest of the property as well. Have a walk around and you’ll be amazed at how diverse this little paradise is! Or take a chair and just chill in the garden and see how many different bird species you can spot (we haven’t tried yet but we think there are at least 20 that we spot on a regular basis! The natural panoramic outdoor swimming pool will feel amazing after a day out! Fishing is free for guests. We’re no experts but apparently the bass in our ponds are big, and we made a deal with our partner across the road (Troutways) so that you can also test your fly-fishing skills for free. In both cases it’s catch-and-release. – Other things to note – Dogs are welcome but please note that we do like to let our chickens roam free when there are no dogs around, so please make sure to let us know if you have dogs so that we can keep the chickens safe and you can maybe take your dog off the leach. We charge R60 per dog per night and our standard policy is that dogs should be kept in control at at all times. Off leach at your own risk. Vodacom network is generally okay, but you’ll have to walk around the property a bit to find MTN. No hi-speed Wi-Fi for now but we can give you access to our 3G wireless if you need it. Laundry washing available upon request. Let us know if you need a portable crib, a high chair or toys for your kids. We have a one-year old and a 4 year-old, so we may be able to sort you out. Don't hesitate to inquire about unusual check-in or check-out times. If we don't have back-to-back bookings we're happy to be flexible. Additional mattresses available on request.

Interaction with guestsUnfortunately we're not always there, but we try to come every second weekend so please don't hesitate to come say hi if you see us! Our friends at Roc n’ Rope manage the bookings for us so you will meet them to get the keys and they are incredibly knowledgeable on activities in the area, and always willing to help. They run a climbing shop/rental/school in town and they organise all sorts of outings and activities (we strongly recommend the Elandsriver waterfall abseiling daytrip!), so don’t hesitate to ask them – they’ll always understand your specific needs (even if you don’t) and make your stay in Boven something that you won’t forget!

Excellent, Pet Friendly, Close enough for a weekend trip
The cottage is beautiful and fully equipped. The location is peaceful, private and situated in lovely scenery- you can listen to the stream a few metres from the patio and have easy access to the trails in the area. Lovely, helpful owners who baked sourdough and left organic vegetables for guests. Also pet friendly with some friendly farm dogs who visit. It was an excellent way to spend a weekend, 10/10 recommend

A dog owners dream
A beautiful, private area that really allowed us to relax. The hikes and views are Instagram worthy, with multiple fishing spots to keep you entertained! Our dogs absolutely loved it, with so much space to run around and play with the owners' dogs who are extremely well socialized. Worth every cent!

Tranquility under the pines.
A cosy, well-equipped and beautifully decorated cottage in the most perfect location. We loved the easy access to beautiful hikes/rock pools & the thoughtful touches from the owners, like freshly baked bread & a basket of activities for our kids, including the sweetest treasure hunt around the farm. A truly wonderful place to stay.

Great location, even better service
We recently spent Christmas at this beautiful location in Waterval Boven. Everything about the cottage encourages peace and relaxation. The owners are very helpful and friendly, they encourage environmental awareness and conservation. The surrounding area is stunningly beautiful. We will definitely return for future visits to this destination.

What an incredibly peaceful weekend away- could've stayed forever 😄
We spent an absolutely beautiful weekend in the Pine Cottage for a girls' weekend away. The cottage is set in the ideal location- between tall pine trees, with the calming stream close by. The cottage was well-equipped and we felt like we could truly relax and take a much needed break away from the hustle and bustle of our busy town. The hike was scenic, a wonderful morning activity and well marked for us to enjoy. Thank you to Renia and Balthazaar for your hospitality! We all agreed- we did not book for long enough and will be back soon!

Serene, wholesome and perfectly located
This is the perfect getaway for the adventure and serenity seekers alike especially if you want to stay somewhere that pays attention to details and has all the perfect homely touches. The Tegwaan Country Getaway is an absolutely gorgeous property full of wonder: there are long trout dams, ancient aloes and very mature trees, a pecan nut orchard, (and during harvesting season you can purchase them). You can walk from your room straight into the veld along the "stone circle" hiking trail which has some of the best cliff views in Boven. There are also some of SA's best mountain biking and climbing routes just 2 mins away. My girl friend and I stayed in the pine cottage that can sleep up to four people. It would be perfect for four but was incredibly luxurious for just two. All the old world charm of a quality fire place and a welcome package of fresh eggs and muesli rusks but modern touches where it counts like a long modern L couch and electric blankets for a chilly winter evening. The kitchen is also fully kitted out and other than an oven (who needs an oven for a weekend getaway) there was nothing that hadn't been thought of (the kind of place that provides paper towels etc.) The care and well thought out experience made this an unforgettable weekend away. I'd recommend it highly to anyone and everyone. Thank you Tegwaan.

Peaceful cottage in serene surroundings
The Pine cottage has all the comforts of home. Tegwaan is an ideal breakaway destination for the weekend warrior. Only 3 hours from JHB or 2 from PTA it offers rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and fishing. I really enjoyed my stay there and will definitely be back there soon.
