About the neighbourhood
Acorn Retreat is located on the edge of Exmoor National Park ideal for walking , wildlife watching .Easy reach to Doone Country, Lynton, Lynmouth, Ilfracombe, Dulverton, Dunster. Heddon Valley, Tarr steps. Northern regions (20 mins) find superb beaches like Woolacombe, Saunton Sands and the famous surf beach of Croyde, dramatic headlands at Baggy Point on the SW coastal path. Two markets towns nearby one being the principal town of North Devon: Barnstaple. Good network of quiet roads, characterful pubs to suit all budgets. Nearest pub is like a scene out of Poldark and while it has no electricity has the best Pianola in the SW on which you can have a go!
Getting around
This is an area where you need a car. There is a limited bus service for some car-free days we can recommend catching the coastal bus services: jump on jump off to see the southwest coast or catch the Surf bus in Barnstaple for the northern beaches for Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton Sands where some of the longest beaches in the UK are found. We have a couple of bikes to borrow which are allowed on the surf bus. Devon has many hills so bikes are for the fit however, the Tarka Trail is 34 miles flat going and has lots of coffee stops. Jump on the Tarka Trail at Barnstaple - see Sustrans maps.
