Nynemia means peace in ancient Greek, a very appropriate name for this outstanding accommodation set in 6,000 square metres of land and surrounded by olive groves, for almost as far as the eye can see. Standing on a terraced hillside a little under 1.5 km from Almerida, Villa Nynemia enjoys glorious sea views and a tranquil rural setting, yet still remains within fairly easy walking distance of the sandy beaches, shops and tavernas of Almirida, especially in the cool of the evening. A useful fact we thought, if perhaps you sometimes crave a little exercise after a sumptuous taverna meal and a glass or two of local wine. Elegant hand made furniture, quality kitchen and bathroom fittings (with English plumbing) are all part of Penny, the charasmatic owner's, philosophy that guests who real...Nynemia means peace in ancient Greek, a very appropriate name for this outstanding accommodation set in 6,000 square metres of land and surrounded by olive groves, for almost as far as the eye can see. Elegant hand made furniture, quality kitchen and bathroom fittings (with English plumbing) are all part of Penny, the charasmatic owner's, philosophy that guests who really enjoy their stay are likely to return, a point of view with which we entirely agree, as do many now regular guests, to whom 'Villa Nynemia' has become synonymous with 'Holiday in Crete'. From the parking area to the side of the house a pathway with a number of steps curves up to the main rear entrance terrace, where a door opens directly into the open plan living area at first floor level, with to the right the superbly fitted kitchen in an L shape complete with full cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and a capuccino-espresso machine. To the front of the room is a very comfortable living area, with an arrangement of comfortable sofas and stylish dining table and chairs. The sea views from here are absolutely stunning but are even better from the adjoining covered terrace at the front of the villa, furnished for dining alfresco. A doorway off the living room leads to a beautifully furnished bedroom with twin beds matrimonial style and a very chic ensuite shower room, plus French windows to the same front terrace that runs the length of the villa at this level. A smart wood trimmed staircase sweeps down from the lounge to the lower level, where there are two well furnished bedrooms, one with twin beds matrimonial style and an en-suite shower room, the other with a large double bed and a full en-suite bathroom, complete with washing machine tucked away in a cupboard. Both bedrooms have French windows to the cool and shady lower terrace. To the far side of this villa is the tiled 9m x 5m mineral pool (no Chlorine, water is filtered through salts), complete with a gazebo offering shade in the heat of the day with a lovely outdoor bed, as well as an outside shower and plenty of sun beds. A purpose built barbecue is conveniently located to the rear of the property near the kitchen terrace. **As an extra service at Villa Nynemia, for those clients who would prefer to enjoy their beautiful surroundings of their villa in the evenings without cooking, Penny has thoughtfully made take away delivery arrangements with one of the tavernas in Almirida, who will deliver your meal to Villa Nymenia in serving dishes (not tin foil dishes) and lay your table in readiness. Crockery etc can be returned the following day.** NB.The pool has a minimum depth of 1.50m throughout. Tourist License / Licencia de turismo N °: EOTMHTE1042K10003165501More

The villa was everything we dreamed it would be. Well positioned, clean, spacious, well equipped. The pool was great and well maintained and in a glorious sun trap. The fact we could have a great view of the younger children from the balcony was a...More

About the neighbourhood
Almerida, Crete 22 km east of Chania, the pretty little seaside village of Almerida has two gently shelving sandy beaches fringed by sleepy waterside tavernas as well as a small fishing harbour and little rocky coves, with the sea a marvellous melange of colours from deep aquamarine to a pastel turquoise. A decade ago Almirida was just a fishing village and a weekend watering hole for local Greeks from Chania. Times change of course and Almirida has slowly grown into a small resort with a number of villas, apartments and quite a few hotels. Curiously enough though, the Greeks still come at weekends, the fishermen still fish and the waterside tavernas still have a laid back unhurried atmosphere where time is of no consequence and you can si
