Interaction with guests
We (Nic and Bern) live on site and we're usually around to welcome guests and hand over the keys. If we're out for any reason we'll let you know where we'll leave the keys for you. We know that some of our visitors like peace and quiet and their privacy and above all we want our guests to enjoy their stay. If you do need some help or information - or just want to pass the time of day - just knock on our door or we're often about working with the horses or the miniature sheep and we're very happy to help or tell you about the animals.

Wayward Cottage met all our expectations for our break. The hosts were attentive but unintrusive. The cottage is spacious and well laid out, with modern features but retaining its passed: exposed wooden beams and log fire. The hospitality gifts (fresh eggs, wine, biscuits, tea, coffee...More

About the neighbourhood
The Peak District National Park is renowned for its walking and there are plenty of footpaths in the area, including a four and a half mile circular walk at the bottom of our drive. The Manifold and Tissington trails are a short distance away, as is Dovedale. Lud's Church, Thor's Cave and the Roaches are popular walking spots. There is cycle hire at the Manifold Valley.
There are lots of country pubs and plenty of cafes and restaurants (many dog friendly) in Leek (8 miles) and Ashbourne (11 miles).
Among the many nearby attractions - Chatsworth House, Alton Towers, an otter sanctuary, a wildlife park and caverns
A little further afield (45 minutes) Bakewell and Buxton are well worth a visit.
Getting around
Unfortunately public transport is quite limited in the Peak District and you really do need a car to get about.
