We collected a car from the airport and once we negotiated our way thro Argostoli, Chaliatata wasn't too difficult to find, although, be warned, a distinct lack of road signs on the higher mountain roads, also many goats roaming free on the roads. The mountain roads are very windy and steep, both up and down. Our journey to Sunrise took about 50 mins.
We were met at the villa by Rassias who talked us thro the basics. Is English is quite basic but better than our non existent Greek.
The villa is in a stunning quiet village with spectacular views down to Sami. It has a large upper ( with swing seat) and lower patio, and beautiful, but not, large pool, which is cleaned daily by Rassias, although we did find the steps slippery and my husband slipped on said steps one day and suffered some nasty bruising to his back. There are 4 sun beds on the terrace but no cushions available so not the most comfortable to relax on. Cushions a definite must!! The house is modern and has all mod cons, including a room set aside with extensive gym equipment, including treadmill. The kitchen are has lots of gadgets, including kettle, coffee maker, sandwich maker, dish washer, microwave. Only critism here is that there are many gadgets but not enough basics, ie, small saucepans, and utensils, but obviously not a problem if you eat out. The 2 modern bedrooms are large with spacious fitted robes ( not enough coat hangers) + small TV in each, although only BBC world news available. Bedrooms also have a safe in each but as not secured to a solid wall, a break-in would see the thieves making off down the road with your valuables!! Each bedroom has a very stylish and modern bathroom, master bedroom enjoying the luxury of a spa bath. There is also a shower room and loo on the ground floor. Hair dryer, iron and board also supplied. All linen is changed every 3rd day, along with cleaning, which is a wonderful touch but I'm sure once a week would be adequate. Rassias came to say cheerio before we left and very kindly passed on a gift of the local wine, so kind. Sunrise villa, a fabulous find and I just hope it doesn't become so popular that we struggle to book in the future. Our 1st visit to Cephalonia but will certainly be back for another visit.
