About the neighbourhood
The quiet hamlet of Rhiwbryfdir is on the fringe of Blaenau Ffestiniog and is dominated by it's unique, historical, mountain backdrop - a dramatic setting with the large Rhiw chapel. Situated beneath the Crimea Pass, the old cottages originally built for the slate miners c. 1840 nestle under the Moelwyn mountains and are surrounded by heritage. Interesting inclines, old drum-houses and the famous zig-zag path on the vast old Oakeley tip dominate the landscape - a haven for photographers, walkers and nature lovers. A far distant cry when the area in it's hey-day of c. 1880s would have been bustling with quarrymen, horses and also carts coming down the mountainside loaded with slate to be loaded onto the Ffestiniog Railway. There is nowhere else quite like it - truly unique.

Getting around
A good selection of public transport is available if you do not have car.
We have a mainline station in town which connects to the UK rail network via our very own branch line up to Llandudno. Also the Ffestiniog Railway from Easter to October runs down to Porthmadog. There is a good choice of local bus routes - the bus station is also in town.
Walking distance from the cottage is Antur Stiniog (the extreme downhill mountain bike centre); Llechwedd Slate Cavern complex which is also home to Titan Zip World - zips outside and inside, also Bounce Below and the Ffestinog Railway.
