Akasha Mountain Retreat sits between the towns of Heidelberg & Riversdale (on the N2 national road) and Barrydale, on the R62 route through the Klein Karoo. Within a 60km radius lies the historic town of Swellendam with the National Bontebok Park alongside. Nearby, the picturesque town of Suurbraak is the site of a very early mission station. Tradouw Pass, built by Sir Thomas Bain in the 1860's, is a scenic drive not to be missed. Grootvadersbosch is part of the Boosmansbos Wilderness Area (World Heritage Site), the south-westernmost location of indigenous afromontane forest, with 196 listed bird species. The nearest beach is Witsand, at mouth of the Breede River.with De Hoop Nature Reserve just opposite.
