How about something completely different? A renovated stone house in the centre of the traditional village of Pano Gouves offers guests the best of both worlds. Experience village life & meet the wonderful local people, experience the greek culture first hand. Yet the beautiful beaches & livelier resort of Kato Gouves are only 2 kilometers away. The house is approx 140 yrs old, renovated to a high standard & offers all modern conveniences. There is a very private enclosed courtyard with bbq & seating for lazy evening's in, or alternatively a large 75m roof terrace with a pergola & seating for dining or sun chairs for relaxing. The village has 4 restaurant/tavernas so plenty of choices for eating out, there is also a mini market & bakery for supplies. Car hire is advised....How about something completely different? About the neighbourhood
Pano Gouves is a wonderful traditional village to experience the Greek lifestyle. It is also a good base for exploring the island, be it inland to the beautiful lassithi plateau & the cave of Zeus or maybe to visit historical sites like Knossos in Heraklion. There are plenty of beaches & small coastal villages to explore, I would suggest Sissi & a visit to the nearby Milatos caves. If you wish to explore the south of the island, Matala is approximately 1.5hr drive, Ahgia galini is also worth a visit. Locally you will find Creta aquarium or maybe visit the nearby traditional villages of Pano hersonnosis for Greek dancing every Tuesday, or Piskopiano & Koutoloufari to eat!
Getting around
There is a good bus system on the island. Push bikes, mopeds & cars can be hired locally in kato Gouves. Taxis are available also.
