It wasn't my first trip "up north" from the Twin Cities, but definitely the most luxurious! Immaculate and cozy, this cabin was the perfect getaway for my family to cook, eat, sit by the wood-burning fire place, and push off from for a day of...More

About the neighbourhood
This property is located in the extreme north of the state of Minnesota. We are located on a Boundary Water Lake. This is the area the French Voyageurs traveled to in the 17th and 18th centuries to trade with the Ojibwe. There are numerous locations in the BWCA that were the homes of both the Native Americans and the Voyageurs. The area is a stunning natural wonderland. Every person should visit it at least once in their lifetime and see the vastness and beauty of the area.
Getting around
You will need a car to get to our hideaway. It is located on the edge of the big forest. We are located on Lake Saganaga (Big Sag) which is a Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness entry point. The home is about 1 hour drive up the Gunflint trail to the end of the trail. From our home you will want to get in a canoe and go out and explore the wilderness. You can go for a day trip or we can help you plan an overnight trip or as long as a canoe trip as you can imagine. In the winter you will want to have 4WD. You need to be careful when you drive up here because you will encounter wildlife on the road and sometimes they do not move too quickly. So drive within the speed limit!

How to get there
Airport: Duluth: 180.0 km
You will drive up the Lake Superior Coastline on HWY 61 from Duluth. Be sure to stop at the many waterfalls and other scenic areas along the way. When you get to Grand Marais you will want to stop in town and have lunch. This is one of the best towns in America. From Grand Marais you will drive up the Gunflint trail to the end of the trail and the end of civilization. You will be at the doorstep of a 10,000 square kilometer forest straddling the US and Canadian border.
