Yá'át'ééh. (Hello)

We are a native owned off grid retreat offering guests a unique stay in our family Hogan on the Navajo Nation in the outstanding natural beauty of northern Arizona. It is our intention to provide guests a truly respectful interaction with Navajo culture. The hogan is a traditional Navajo dwelling. Traditionally they are first and foremost a home. They also serve as the center of ceremonial activity. Our hogan is outfitted with the basic necessities one will need for a pleasant stay. It is Baya's grandmother's last hogan. This experience will offer one an insight as to how the Navajo lived not terribly long ago.

We serve a traditional Navajo breakfast. All other meals must be sourced in Page. It is off grid here. Very minimalist. It will offer guests an understanding and appreciation as to how the Na...

Interaction with guests
We greet guests and give them a bio of the land, people, and accommodations as we check them in. We then tend to give guests privacy.

However, we are on property and will certainly welcome questions guests have about the Navajo people and culture, sheep, ranch, and area attractions. Usually you'll find us at the sheep pens and horse corrals.

I had high hopes for staying at the hogan on Baya's property. We are avid tent campers, love the American Southwest and are very interested in everything connected to Native American culture, but our stay with Hogan Glamping was a let down. The location sure is wonderful! Unfortunately, Baya's greeting was neither friendly nor welcoming. One of the dogs came...

Management response:

Annette, Thank you. We're sorry you found the experience less than satisfactory. You and Curtis were welcomed and greeted warmly. As I would do to all of the visitors to my home. You were never sternly admonished to not pet our dogs. I explained to you that the particular dog in question in is training as a livestock guardian and...

Baya and their very loving dogs greeted us when we arrived. Baya showed us the hogan and explained how to use the woodburning stove which heated the place. It gets a little chilly at night even in May. We were able to do Horseshoe and Antelope Canyon in one day and then drive to the Grand Canyon the second day....

We stayed one night here in March, the location was incredible for star gazing and hiking with easy access to the road. As seasoned campers we were ready for an amazingly different experience, Baya's set the context of the experience by telling us it was her grandmother's home, they still use the hogan for spiritual events. We enjoyed playing games...

Management response:

Helen, Thank you. Yes, a Navajo Hogan is first and foremost a home. It s also the center of ceremonial activity. The Hogan is meant to be an experience. We've opened it up for guests at our ranch to understand and appreciate the Navajo way of life. All Hogan floors are compacted dirt. The dirt floor represents Mother Earth and...
