About the neighbourhood
Maldon is Australia's first notable town and is only a seventy minute drive from Melbourne. Maldon makes an ideal base to explore all the central Victorian Goldfields region has to offer. Take a trip down memory lane through the tree lined back streets of Maldon; catch a steam train ride to Castlemaine; tour the goldmine; potter through antiques and collectables stores or simply stroll past grand old buildings - all this (and much more) is on offer within walking distance of the Eaglehawk Hotel. Come and see for yourself why Maldon was awarded the most intact heritage streetscape by the National Trust in 2006. Treat yourself to the experience of what life was like during the gold rush era!
Getting around
Maldon is a 15 minute drive from Castlemaine and 30 minutes from Bendigo. Castlemaine is serviced by VLine rail services and a twice daily bus runs between Castlemaine and Maldon. Taxis are also available for the 15 minute drive between Castlemaine and Maldon.

How to get there
Railway: Castlemaine: 15.0 km
Driving from Melbourne:
1. Drive towards Melbourne Airport but take the Calder Freeway (M79) towards Bendigo.
2. Turn left off the Calder Freeway at Fogarty's Gap Road which is signposted as Maldon. The Fogarty's Gap Road turn off is approximately 5 minutes past the second Castlemaine exit.
3. Drive for 12km. Fogartys Gap Road merges into Bendigo-Maldon Road. Be very careful where the roads merge. It is not well sign posted and can be dangerous.

5. Turn left into Reef St. The Eaglehawk Country House Hotel will be on your right.
