Kildrochet Cottage is the Victorian wing of an early Georgian country house, set in 5.5 acres of gardens, paddock, woods and lawn, which guests are welcome to use. There is open space for children to play and garden furniture for relaxing and dining outdoors. It is situated 3 miles from the shops and amenities of Stranraer, with it's ferry service to Ireland, and at the top of The Mull of Galloway, Scotland's southernmost point. The Galloway Forest Park, Britain's largest, is about 1 hour's drive away. The interior of the cottage is light and airy, with the lounge having a lovely view over the lawn and garden, and the general ambiance is country cottage but with an individual and artistic slant. Although a 1 - bedroom cottage, there is also a spare, comfortable folding bed for a child or extra guest. Wi-fi internet is available. Pets are welcome. Please see our adjacent one bedroom property on Trip Advisor/Flipkey at - 'The Studio, Beach 10mins, Portpatrick 15mins'. This may be particularly useful for groups of 3 or 4 who wish to travel together as the property also sleeps 2. UPDATE: As of mid June 2015, we now have Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband, so the internet is both much faster and more reliable.

Peaceful, spacious countryside apartment to explore a beautiful area
This apartment provided the ideal base for our 3-day visit around the area. The grounds around the apartment are very peaceful (countryside with garden and wooded landscape). Well equipped and spacious, the 2.5 storey apartment has a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom on the top level, a nicely appointed living room on the middle floor, and a large kitchen and dining area on the ground floor. Windows on all levels look out to beautiful garden or wooded areas of the property. Philip is an excellent host (thoughtful, prompt, etc.). Fast internet (approx 55mbps down and 18 mbps up) was appreciated.

Quiet country retreat at the heart of the Galloway Peninsular
Kildrochet House was originally the Dower House attached to a long-gone 'Big Hoose'. Situated in it's own grounds up a rather bumpy drive, it is a Grade II listed white painted building, with the holiday let around the back. We guessed it could have been the cook/housekeepers quarters once upon a time. The let is over three floors and attached on one side to the main house and on the other to a garage that has also now been converted in to a holiday let. On the ground floor is a well appointed kitchen, fully kitted out and a joy to cook in. On the first floor is the sitting room, with freesat TV, dvd player, games books and information about the surrounding area. On the top floor is the bedroom with en-suite toilet and shower room; the bath itself is placed in the bedroom so that you see out of the window, into the grounds. Stranraer is about 15 minutes away, with 3 supermarkets and other local shops. Portpatrick is 15 minutes away on the coast, with some excellent places to eat - especially Connor's restaurant overlooking the harbour. Head south down the penisular to the Mull of Galloway for good bird watching, an excellent tea room and views over the Solway Firth, Isle of Man and Ireland. The owners could not have been more welcoming, we especially appreciated the fresh flowers in the kitchen and the living room; their two Italian dogs just put the finishing touches to a great week.

Tranquility & Convenience
Kildrochet House is the perfect place if you seek tranquility. It has everything you might need as a self catered place. It is laid out on 2 1/2 levels. The lounge and bedroom are nicely decorated and offer good comfort. A lot of books are available and tourism information documentation abound. Kildrochet House is also well located as it a 15 minutes drive to the Cairnryan ferry port. You can make a day trip to Belfast. Also nearby is the quaint village of Portpatrick. The drive from Sranraer towards or from Ayr offers spectacular views. Kildrochet House is an excellent pied-a-terre to tour Dumfries & Galloway county. Stranraer is a stone throw away for all shopping needs. I really enjoyed my stay at Kildrochet House.

Ticks all the boxes
Lying in its own spacious and natural country setting, Kildrochet is a very comfortable, comprehensively equipped three-storeys annex to a Georgian country house. The fittings are tasteful and beautifully coordinated and in the adjacent courtyard and around the grounds are occasional tables and seating. You need not go further than the nearby supermarkets to enjoy your stay at this lovely 'home' base. But should you wish to venture there are endless delights; sea, lochs, forests, dunes, dramatic rocky outcrops, a coastal ride to die for and much more. Don't expect sophistication or luxury in the surrounding setting (but you already know that, that's why you chose there), just enjoy the big skies, the wide vistas and the 'unspoiltness'. It might rain; it might, as for us, be gloriously hot. In any weather it is what it is, like little else. And Kildrochet makes it a great stay at a competitive rate.

Another fantastic visit! Outstanding accommodation in a tranquil location
This was our second visit and it was just as good as the first. The accommodation is of a very high standard, exceptionally clean and you are provided with everything you need for a self catering break. The location is perfect for visiting the many gardens in the area and only 10minutes to Stranraer. We will definitely be back again...

Excellent...wonderful holiday
Arrived to find a stunning manor style house. The cottage we stayed in was spotless, and had everything we needed. The roll top bath was fantastic, and so was the big plushy bed... So comfy. Phil was super friendly and so helpful with his communications. Can not find any faults, the cottage is pure class and elegance. My 2 dogs had a wonderful stay too, plenty of grounds to walk around, beautiful beaches and forest walks close by too. The only thing I thought would have been nice was in the handbooks in the cottage would be a little bit of history about the house itself. I would have loved to know a bit of history about the Georgian Manor House and it's cottage... But that's just me. Trust me when I say this place is beautiful and we will most DEFINATLEY be going back. Had a wonderful stay. Thank you to Phil also for being so helpful and making booking so easy... And for allowing us to share his beautiful house. Thank you.

Perfect in every way
We enjoyed our stay in this very well equipped and comfortable property. Philip was most welcoming and happily accommodated our rather late arrival. Milk in the fridge and fresh flowers in each room were the icing on this delicious cake!

About the neighbourhood
At the head of The Mull of Galloway, the peninsula at the southernmost point of Scotland. In the countryside of Wigtownshire at the junction of the A716 an B7077. Very near several beaches and the lovely villages of Portpatrick, Wigtown, Port Logan and Kirkcudbright.
Getting around
Having a car is highly recommended as we are out in the countryside and getting around regularly in taxis would be very expensive.
