Overview
Cottage -
2 Bedrooms , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 5
Tighnabruaich, Argyll and Bute, Scotland
Available to let all year round, Hillview Cottage is a traditional 2 bedroom property situated in a beautiful sheltered scenic setting in an elevated position over looking the sparse western shores of the Isle of Bute with the mountains of the island of Arran in the distance. Heating and hot water are provided by a wood burning stove and lighting by enclosed candle lanterns. Completely off grid, there is no electricity or landline, and you won't miss them! The cottage is a wonderful place to stay for rest, relaxation and recreation.

Built in 1896 as a game keepers cottage for the former Caladh House estate, the property's rustic and antiquated nature have been retained to provide an opportunity to escape from all mod cons and the demands from everyday living.

Situated 1.5 miles north of the villages of Tighnabruaich and the ad...

Loved Hillview Cottage, the best holiday we've had for years, a proper chance to switch off. Were extremely lucky with the weather, sunny during the days and clear nights giving great views of the night sky and the milky way. Our dogs enjoyed themselves too, they settled in very quickly as we did, and great secluded walks around the cottage...

The cottage and views are amazing. The cottage is dog friendly and there are plenty of walks in the surrounding area. We had our Chrismas break at the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the area. The cottage has everything you need for your stay and is oozing with character. Peter leaves a well documented folder regarding...

I had a great week here. Whilst the cottage isn't too remote by Scottish standards, it's nicely out of the way, with a cracking view out of the front and conservatory. Unfortunately the weather was West of Scotland late October at it's worst, but that didn't detract from the cottage itself, which was snug with the stove lit, which also...

Additional amenities & feature info
Comfortably rustic, the cottage, which sleeps 5, was constructed of stone and slate in 1896 for use as a gamekeepers abode for the Caladh Estate. The interior has stone walls and pine clad ceilings throughout, with exposed beams and wooden painted floor boards in the main two rooms and painted stone floors to the rear rooms. Heating is by virtue of a recently installed (late 2011) wood-burning stove and log fire. The wood stove has a back boiler, which produces piping hot fresh water from a wholesome mountain stream source so you can bathe in the wonderful long and deep Victorian cast iron bath. Light the candles and take some wine and music and a good friend and keep topping up the hot! Lighting is by virtue of enclosed candle lanterns, and there are torches for when after the lights are... more

About the neighbourhood
Tighnabruaich and it's adjoining neighbouring village of Kames are located on the Kyles of Bute at the southern tip of the Cowal peninsula, which lies between the Isle of Bute and the Kintyre / Campbeltown peninsula. The sheltered coastal waters and breathtaking scenery of the hidden peninsula combine to make the area an idyllic choice for people looking for tranquility and a peaceful getaway.

There is no real throughput of traffic, people visit specifically as their destination, and the laid-back community feel of the peninsula is much akin to that of an island.

The villages are approximately 2 hours from Glasgow, whether you chose the ferry route from Gourock over the Clyde estuary, and the drive past Loch Tarsan, Loch Striven and Loch Riddon, or the drive round past Loch Lomond...

Getting around
From the cottage there are tracks and pathways to the explore the vicinity and the Cowal Way path route is only 250 metres away. The peninsular is ideal for cycling to get around, especially for the more intrepid, to go further afield.

Ferry links from Portavadie to the Kintyre Peninsula and from Colintraive to the Isle of Bute provide excellent opportunities for exploring more of the region. Public buses provide access to the ferry terminals and beyond, but make sure of the timetables before venturing forth as times can be limited, especially at the weekend.

Check out lovely quiet tracks and roadways online and on ordinance survey to explore quiet and serene places, some of which are mentioned in the information pack supplied.
