'An Taigh Clach' (Gaelic for the Stone House) boasts stunning views, with the Atlantic to the west, the hills of Uig and Harris to the south and the croft land of Carloway directly outside your doorstep all of which can be viewed from the living area which offers a 180 degree panoramic view. Being on the West coast of Lewis, we are ideally situated for exploring the whole island and especially the many local sites of interest such as the world famous Callanish Standing Stones, the Broch at Doune Carloway, Garenin Blackhouse village and the restored Norse Mill. With numerous outdoor pursuits available nearby there is always plenty to do or you can just calm down, chill out, sit back and watch the clouds go by........................ after all ................... this is YOUR holiday !!!

Great location, local beaches amazing, must see attractions close by, now the best bit, the cottage is amazing, the owners, Val and Calum were wonderful hosts and can't thank them enough for their attention and kindness throughout our stay.We will he back.

There are two bedrooms - one double, one twin room. Whilst the bedrooms are not large, they are cosy with their solid oak floors and snuggled within the old stone walls your sleep will be peaceful and undisturbed. In an effort to reduce energy consumption we have opted not to install a bath, however there is a larger than average shower. The open plan living / fully fitted kitchen area provides a quality family interaction room, with the multi-fuel stove providing a focal point and economical heat source using locally sourced peat and wood.

About the neighbourhood
Sea based activities such as kayaking and surfing have grown enormously in popularity recently due to the pristine clean waters around the golden beaches. However there is no need to rush in the morning to claim your spot on your favourite beach as there is plenty room for all. Fresh water angling for the wild indigenous brown trout could easily result in double figure bags but there are also sea trout and salmon available and sea fishing for those who have the necessary 'sea legs'. Stornoway has an invigorating and challenging 18 hole golf course and there is the ultimate 9 hole links course in Harris recently played by Nick Faldo.

Getting here has never been easier and your break could take you from 'pavement to peatbank' in a couple of hours with the following options: direct daily flights to and from Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh with Flybe and direct weekday flights to and from Aberdeen with Eastern Airways. There are daily sailings between Ullapool and Stornoway and sailings Monday to Saturday between Uig in Skye and Tarbert in Harris - contact Caledonian Macbrayne for further information. Travel to Carloway from Stornoway can be made via the A857, turn left at Barvas or the A859, turn right at Leurbost onto the A858 and continue to Carloway.
