Overlooking England's highest village, the Old School House offers panoramic views over the stunning rural landscape of the North Pennines. It is an ideal place for a relaxing yet invigorating escape from the daily routine.

A great base for walking, cycling, bird watching and gazing at the night sky at our on-site North Pennines Observatory. Ask for details.

The west wing of the Victorian schoolhouse, originally used as a classroom and library, has recently been refurbished to provide spacious, self-contained, accommodation for visitors. It is a beautiful space which includes an open-plan living area with high ceilings, a wood-burning stove, big comfortable sofas and a long dining table with a fitted oak kitchen.

You have your own entrance to your private accommodation in the west wing of the old school house, so you can come and go as you please; the hosts live on location in the middle part of the building and are available for any help needed or any questions you might have.

About the neighbourhood
The area is filled history with the Armstrong Engine, Blacksmiths, the Heritage Centre and a the Allenheads Contemporary Arts Gallery.
In the warmer months there is the hustle and bustle of Cyclists, walkers, shooter, loaders and in the winter months, skiers and folk who love the area of outstanding natural beauty - The North Pennines! There will be a dark skies observatory opening in spring 2017.
You will be able to enjoy a lovely meal and a hard earned pint in the Allenheads Inn.
There is also a cafe serving delicious home made food called The Hemmel.
Getting around
The bus stop is at a short walk's distance down the hill. There are several buses going in to Hexham every day except on Sundays. In Hexham you can do groceries and visit shops, but also travel further by train to Newcastle and other near-by cities.

Ferry: North Shields: 80.0 km
To get to us from Newcastle by public transport, get a train to Hexham, then go by bus 688 to Allenheads. Get off at the Inn, and it's only a short walk up to the old school house.

By car follow A69 from Newcastle. Continue on A686. Drive to B6295. Parking on premises is possible.
