The Old Bakery is situated in the heart of Fareham Town Centre in the historic Georgian high street. Parts of the cottage date back to the 16th century and include a lovely old inglenook fireplace. The cottage is very comfortable with two large double bedrooms with quality mattresses and a large twin bedded room also with quality mattresses. There are two bathrooms, one a shower room and the other a family bathroom with a bath. There is a fully fitted modern kitchen leading to a separate dining room with seating for 6 people. The recent addition of a tumble dryer will hopefully enhance visitors stay further.This room overlooks the walled garden at the rear of the cottage.. About the neighbourhood
Fareham town centre is based around two main streets which intersect- - High Street and West Street. The cottage is situated in the High Street It is an elegant street lined with predominantly Georgian buildings and includes a pub, The Golden Lion, Lysses House Hotel along with 3 independent restaurants - Villa Romano, Lauro's Brasserie and Truffles. West Street is the commercial and retail area of Fareham and includes a host of shops, pubs, restaurants a cinema, banks and takeaways. It is also home to the Fareham Shopping Centre. Fareham also has Cams Hall a former home of Lady Hamilton, Admiral Nelson's famous mistress. Fareham Creek is just a short walk from the cottage-where you can see the boats and the swans.
Getting around
Fareham is ideally placed to visit many attractions and historic sites. A car is obviously the best way to get out and about and see the area and there are excellent road links including the M27, the south coast motorway which connects Fareham to Portsmouth and Chichester to the east and Southampton, Winchester and the New Forest to the west. The local train station offers services straight into Portsmouth and Southampton and all the towns in between. There is a choice of ferries from Portsmouth and Southampton to the Isle of Wight and the area is well served by a good local bus service and a huge choice of taxi services.
