Overview

Mayfield, East Sussex, England
A lovely little traditional Oast House on owners' 17th century working farm.Beef cattle graze the fields in summer( but are no longer always overwintered.) There are 60 acres of rolling farmland to explore, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This unique self-catering property has been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard to ensure a comfortable stay.

The property is situated on a secluded and very quiet country lane and has a private driveway. The enclosed private garden is safe for children. When exploring the farm, care should be taken near ponds, wells, the bordering stream and of course the animals! You will have the use of your own private garden with BBQ facilities. Due to the fact that this is a working farm with livestock, regrettably we cannot allow dogs.

The location of this Oast house is totally idillic. Surrounded by woodland and fields with young cows in the field behind the property. The Oast house itself has everything you need and we had a wonderful long weekend. Double bed was comfortable and kitchen had everything you need. Shower was good too! Not too far from Ashdown Forest and lots...

There is a paucity of hotels and accommodation in this area so it was delightful to find this gem. Huge double room decorated in country style, small single with pull out bed below and sofa bed downstairs. Nice kitchen with big farmhouse table and lounge with small t.v. Although its based on a working farm there wasnt any noise or...

This was my second visit to the Oast house and was as relaxing and enjoyable as the first. Beautiful quiet surroundings, and the cottage itself is lovely, with everything you need, including a very comfortable large bed, and a kitchen that is well stocked with cooking implements and crockery. The farm is perfect for long walks.

About the neighbourhood
The historic village of Mayfield was at its height during the boom in the Wealden iron industry, and many of the fine houses date from that time. There is an array of shops on Mayfield High Street, as well as three pubs: the Middle House (in the High Street), the Carpenters Arms and the Rose and Crown (both in Fletching Street). The renowned Mayfield Festival of Music and the Arts is a biennial event that takes place in May and attracts world class performers.Royal Tunbridge Wells, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within easy reach.
