Overview
Private Room , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 4
Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York
This whaling captain's house has been in my family six generations. We offer the original wing of house for weekend rental May through October. One bedroom has a water view, the second bedroom is larger at the front of the house, and they share a dressing room/office. The room at the front of the house has some road noise, but it quiets down at night.
Enjoy the spacious porch, that includes an eating area and porch swing. if you wish to take an afternoon nap, we recommend the hammock. We have bicycles, kayak and a sunfish sailboat available for our guests.
Sag Harbor village is a few minutes walk over the bridge. There you can enjoy the restaurants and nightlife of this well known town. The boutiques and shops attract many visitors. You can bring your car (parking provided), or be like our family and walk, saved from the hassl...

We felt very fortunate to have found this property! We have dear friends nearby who were hosting a birthday celebration and their house was full... our rooms were lovely and we appreciated being able to relax on the back porch and the dock. We really liked the historic character of this house. The portion where we stayed was built in...

Combine a shore-front location with a welcoming inn-keeping couple, a historic house lovingly maintained and furnished in period comfort, and you get Payne House--a worth-every-penny experience. The rooms are spacious and bright; the amenities--e.g., air conditioning and WiFI, bath and beach towels, sunscreen and bug spray--well thought out. The breakfast, with strong hot coffee, fresh fruit, home-made granola and fresh-baked...

About the neighbourhood
Sag Harbor has always been a unique place in the Hamptons. Formerly one of the largest Whaling ports on the East Coast. As East Hampton and Southampton became the playgrounds of the wealthy, Sag Harbor remained a small village, with a 5 and 10, hardware store, grocery store and movie theater all reminiscent of a simpler time. These stores still remain, but the glamour and bustle of Hamptons have moved to Main Street, with many specialty boutiques. You can choose between many restaurants that run the gambit from the five star American Hotel or Beacon, to the casual burger at LT, or a slice of pizza at Conca D'oro. Finding a wonderful meal is easy. The nightlife is just a varied. You can enjoy the local theater, a movie, bars, or people watch on Main Street while eating some of ou... more
Getting around
The easiest way to explore Sag Harbor is to walk. Our family rarely drives to the village - it is just easier to walk and avoid the parking hassles. A car is handy is you want to visit Montauk, the ocean, or the Hampton villages. We have bikes if you wish to explore outside of town, but it is a sunny ride to the ocean and can be hot.
