Half a mile from Rhinebeck village, one of the prettiest towns in the Hudson Valley, with many restaurants and farmers markets. Time from New York City: 2-3 hours by car. Amtrak, MetroNorth trains: 1.5 - 2 hours. Accommodations: An 1850 carriage barn converted into a one bedroom guest house, with its own kitchen and bathroom. Huge open downstairs room including dining area with vintage country table and chairs, and sunny living area. French doors to a large deck, where you can eat at an elegant ironwork table and chairs overlooking the country garden, a little oasis which features majestic Norway spruces, gorgeous fruit blossom trees, rose beds, and native American plants. Long leather couch, comfy chairs and extra large flat screen TV in the sitting area. The bedroom, reached by a partially open staircase, sleeps 2 to 4, with one queen bed and one full bed. The kitchen is equipped with electric stove, dish washer, fridge, and basic dishes, glasses, cooking utensils etc. Bed linens, blankets, duvets, and towels are all provided. We do not have a/c, but the house is equipped with overhead fans and modern tower fans. Electric baseboard heat in the winter. You have your own parking area and private entrance to the guest cottage. The garden is shared with the occupants of the adjacent old stone house. Enjoy our eclectic collection of art, history and gardening books. WiFi and cable. A perfect center for history jaunts to Olana, Montgomery Place, Clermont, Mills Place, Vanderbilt House, FDR's home and library, Eleanor Roosevelt's house. Kayaking and sailing in the Hudson. Great hikes on the Rhinebeck side of the river and on the other side in the Catskills. Close to Kingston (oldest colonial town in NYS after New York and Albany). Great antiquing in neighboring areas and north to the town of Hudson. Lots of horse riding options. Convenient for Dutchess Fairgrounds - frequent shows for antiques, old cars, wool and sheep, food and wine. Tennis courts and outdoor pool in the village. Please note: 1. The staircase to the bedroom is rather steep and would be difficult to navigate for someone with mobility issues. 2. The house is close to a road on one side, rural route 9, and on popular weekends you may hear some traffic noise. More

The cottage was as pictured however, it is located about 25 feet back from a very busy, noisy road. I should have asked about the noise level but unfortunately did not. The host was very nice and accomodating but that did not quite overcome the...More

Many guests are not disturbed by the sound of traffic, but a few are. I'm sorry that you found it bothersome. I have added a note to the description to make clear that the cottage is close to the road, rural Route 9. We seem...More

I was in town to attend my daughter's graduation from Bard College. This place was perfect, as it is on the same side of the Hudson, minutes away from the college without going over the bridge. After all the excitement and flurry of activities that...More
