The lodge style house is approximately 3000 square feet in size, all in one level except for one step into the kitchen. There is a large great room with fireplace, a family room with fireplace, three bedrooms (one with a fireplace), two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a large pantry/storage area.

The house is heated both by a combination of propane (wall heaters in the two larger bedr...

If you're looking for a quiet yet upscale lodge, this is your place. Adjacent to wilderness, night dark sky views as good as any, plus access to an observatory with 2 top notch telescopes. Kitchen and bath have everything (and more) that you'll need. Oh, did I mention the 3 real fireplaces? Highly recommended.

Great place to stay. Kitchen was perfect with anything and everything you could need. Restaurant in El Rito was fantastic and the privacy was perfect for us. We had 6 staying here and the hot water never gave up on us, I would highly recommend staying here.

Management response:

Chris and friends came to enjoy New Mexico - they were great guests, communication was excellent and we hope they return!

Do not attempt to operate the telescope unless you are familiar with the operation of this type of scope.

Management response:

We are glad you enjoyed your time with us. You are welcome to stay with us again. Cheers, Bruce

About the neighbourhood
The village of El Rito is in the rugged high desert country of northern New Mexico. One of the first Spanish settlements in the area, the oldest church in New Mexico is here. Home to artists, photographers, ranchers and farmers, El Rito has that quirky New Mexico vibe.

Carson National Forest - (right in our backyard) Many acres of barely-explored trails and spectacular rock climbing spots.

El Faralito Restaurant - a folksy eatery. They recommend the green chili stew and the 'excellent Fritos pie'. I always go for their chicken enchilada/chili relleno combo with green and red chile (Christmas)

Plaza Blanca Ranch - These spectacular white-rock badlands were painted by Georgia O'Keefe. Plaza Blanca was also the location of the alien ship in 'Cowboys and Aliens'...
