Peaceful farm stay in Breede River Valley
We enjoyed two peaceful, relaxed farm days in Barry House on Riverton Stud, just outside Robertson. Distant sound effects were provided by chirping birds or neighing horses. One could sink with one's book into a large armchair in the drawing room or sit on the verandah and watch the horses and birds. Owner Duncan Barry, usually accompanied by four alert German shepherds, can be spotted before sunrise leading one of his magnificent horses to a fresh paddock. His intellectual wife Natasha, is one of the thought leaders of the Robertson Literary Society. She brings in interesting speakers from all over South Africa to address the Society. Nearby is Springfield Wine Estate which makes the world class Life from Stone sauvignon blanc. Springfield Estate is one of more than 50 flourishing wine estates in the Breede River Valley.

Perfect farm stay.
Barry House is the perfect place for a group of friends to experience farm life with peace and quiet and a large ‘ Stoep’ with views of the horses in the paddocks . Natasha and Duncan make you feel as if you are staying with friends. It was a wonderful ‘ Getaway’ . The bedrooms and en suite bathrooms are 5 star .. Would love to return again one say..

Second time.... and still super special!
We stayed at Barry House for the second time and were, once again, super impressed with the experience. Duncan and Natasha popped in to welcome us and Eva made sure that we had homemade bread and breakfast in spite of load shedding. We enjoyed having our meals in the charming dining room and the ladies loved 'browsing' through the beautiful antique filled rooms. Thank you for a lovely weekend with comfortable beds, good linen & towels and clean rooms & bathrooms. We'll definately return in future.

A wonderful weekend spent at Barry House! The house is stunning and we loved hearing about the history behind it. It is well catered for large groups and offers the perfect space for entertaining. Natasha and Duncan were extremely accommodating and made us feel right at home. We are looking forward to our next visit :)

Nice spot
This is a quaint sprawling house that is perhaps a little lost in time. The rooms are nicely done and there's everything you need but it does feel like the owners left thirty years ago It's very close to Robertson and in a vineyard//stud farm, the payoff for watching numerous foals frolic is an abundance of flies! Worth it if you fill it

We appreciate your honest assessments and have included them in our budget planning. To help our guest to enjoy the view whilst chilling on the long veranda we have installed 3 overhead fans - the moving air currents are successfully keeping the flies away. Whilst Barry House on Riverton is a heritage manor we certainly don't want our guest to feel that it is too lost in time. We are thus giving careful consideration as to how we can "freshen up" the rooms without the house losing it's historic charm and the "artifacts" that some of our guests find fascinating. So far, aside from some minor subtle changes, we have replaced the brass bed and 2 of our rooms are sporting slightly more 'modern' headboards - one being a padded grey leather Victorian diamond headboard. You have certainly set us an interesting challenge which we are keen to meet and trust our guests will approve of. Thank you! Kind regards, Natasha & Duncan Barry

Awesome weekend in lovely house
We had the privilege to stay in Barry House for a weekend. Each of our group had a lovely bedroom and could enjoy the most lovely decor and antique furniture while being spoiled with all the modern facilities. The owners were friendly and welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Housekeeping staff were friendly and efficient. We were even spoiled with home-baked bread and a lovely breakfast on our last morning. We'll definitely visit Barry House again in future.

Awesome!
Barry House is a delightful old family home on a beautiful horse farm. The house is wonderfully presented with ample space for large groups. The setting is outstanding, offering beauty and tranquility. We were lucky enough to witness a goal being born, which was fantastic. Local wine tasting and restaurants are close by and offer good value for money. I can highly recommend massages, which can be done at the house by prior arrangement. Overall a great stay. We will definitely be back as Duncan and Natasha complete the experience with their friendliness and hospitality.

Brilliant
We were 8 ladies staying 3 nights. What an awesome place. Lost each other often in this big house. More than enough space to sleep, place to bath or shower, place to play games and make a fire or sit outside in the garden with horses across in the field. Natasha and Duncan were the best hosts ever. Slight hiccup with water supply one afternoon (not serious) but with 8 woman titivating anything is possible. Duncan was there in no time and sorted things out. We have already said, any golf days in Robertson and we'll be back. 10 minutes from the golf course. 10 minutes from Bon Courage and Van Loveren amongst other wine farms. A must if looking for somewhere to stay. Thank you Duncan and Natasha. Langebaan golfing girls.

What an amazing find!
This place is one of a kind, it is the old family home and that is exactly the feel you get when staying there...it's not just another holiday rental but it has charm and a fantastic atmosphere. There is plenty of space for larger groups, we were only six people but you could easily sleep 12 in the house. There is a large fully equipped kitchen and the entertainment room (with fireplace) is also a great place for after dinner drinks. It was awesome to see the horses playing in the morning, and all the other 'wild life' (birds, squirrels, visiting dogs and cats)

Thank you! It warms our hearts that you have described Barry House so perfectly! It is a well loved rambling home from a bygone era when families were huge and visitors didn't just pop in, they stayed for days. So glad you all enjoyed your stay and sensed the welcoming atmosphere of the home! Also pleased that you didn't mind our dogs treating you as part of the family. They consider it their duty to look after our guests as well.
