Wow! Wow! Wow! This has certainly been the best value for money superior accommodation that I have stayed in.
This review is long overdue. We stayed here for 3 nights in early December 2015 on route from Paternoster back to Johannesburg. Where to start...
Firstly, if you haven't visited the quaint town of Prince Albert, add it to the top of your bucket list. You won't be disappointed. And secondly, make sure you stay at Karoo View cottages. Again, you won't be disappointed.
The cottages are decorated really beautifully with superior furnishings. The kitchen is fully equipped with quality kitchen utensils. The bedroom and bathroom linen are also of top quality. The cottage itself is very spacious with an open plan design consisting of a very high ceiling, a large kingsize bed, lounge, dining table, and a large kitchenette, and of course bathroom.
The cottages are built in a way that provides privacy between the 4 cottages. The views of the Swartberg mountain range are absolutely spectacular from the cottage patio, and from your bed!
We ordered a braai (barbecue) basket from Richard & Julie which contained lovely home-baked bread, local lamb chops, butter, potato, onion, etc. The chops were really good, and the bread a real treat.
Fresh milk was provided everyday - what a pleasure. I hate the longlife milk that is provided by most lodgings. Home-baked rusks were provided daily, which were really tasty. Home-baked muesli was also provided, which we did not eat but certainly looked appealing.
The garden and setting of the cottages is really special. You may be visited by Richard and Julie's cat or Jack Russell, who make themselves at home and make you feel at home. Richard and Julie, the owners, stay on the property and are readily available. They are great hosts and are very helpful if you want to know what to do or where to eat in the quaint town of Prince Albert.
The cottages are a 2 minute walk from the main street of Prince Albert, along which you will find a number of restaurants and quaint shops selling interesting artwork, local ceramics, souvenirs, etc.
I will definitely return to this little town and to the Karoo View cottages to explore the surrounding mountains more. Friends had booked to stay in Prince Albert in March on route to the the Argus cycle tour. They cancelled the reservation they had with another lodging upon our recommendation and stayed in Karoo View cottages, and they were as impressed as we were.
Don't even consider any other accommodation, this is really special, and exceptional value for money.
