Set on a small fish farm surrounded by beautiful river meadow and woodland, the cottage and garden face south, with views across the farm and river Trieux to the wooded hills on either side of the valley. No longer farmed commercially, the trout and salmon farm was one of the the first in Brittany, built in 1938. It is on a designated scenic route approximately 15km from the historic market town of Guingamp. The nearest village is Plésidy, 3km along a lane opposite the house.

There is ample opportunity to discover regional culture, take part in the frequent local social events and enjoy the local countryside, woods and coast. The house is self-contained and centrally heated. Although there are steps up to the front door the kitchen is at ground floor level because of the slope of the land. It has a south-facing central sitting/dining room with a table and chairs at the window, a double sofabed, armchairs, TV (French TV only) and DVD player. A selection of DVDs is available. Both bedrooms have similar south-facing views. The kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The bathroom has a shower/bath. We have a cot and high chair if required. You can hear the sound of the waterfalls supplying the fish ponds.

About the neighbourhood
If you want a rest from travelling, why not relax at the farm, enjoy the garden and explore along the river? Information is provided about local scenic walks from the farm. There are many megalithic monuments in Brittany and in Plésidy there is a 5m menhir, or single standing stone, at the site of what is thought to have been a sacred spring. The villages surrounding the farm all have beautiful chapels and churches with ornately carved calvaries and many hold pardons during the summer months. Pardons are yearly religious festivals that are part of the Breton tradition and usually include a colourful procession, sometimes with people in traditional dress, carrying ornate banners and candles to the church or chapel, followed by a fest deiz (lay festival) which may include a convivial sit-d... more

Ferry: Roscoff: 90.0 km
The gite is on the D767 road between Guingamp and Corlay 15Km south of Guingamp. Access is easy via the N12 dual carriageway which runs past Guingamp.

The nearest ferry ports are Roscoff (ferries from Plymouth) and St-Malo (ferries from Portsmouth and Poole) both of which are just over an hour's drive from the farm. Crossings to and from other ports are also available. The roads are all excellent and there are seldom problems with traffic.
