This was our second trip to Villa Cassava, both over Memorial Day weekend. We enjoyed it so much last year, we brought my brother and his wife this time. The house was so beautiful, located just above lower bay. We had a fantastic time, and were very well looked after by Chef and manager Patrick Hepburn. Cassava house was wonderful reprieve after days out enjoying the island, luxurious yet felt like our home instead of a guest house. I would highly recommend it to anybody who is looking for...

About the neighbourhood
There is a tennis court at the Gingerbread Hotel where after a game Maranne's Ice Cream Parlour on the sea front has to be visited for a cool down.

Snorkel along the rocks, visit the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary in Park Bay, the Whaling Museum, the Hamilton Fort, St Vincent Carnival during the first week of July. Have lunch at Sugar Reef on the Atlantic side or take a water taxi across to Isle de Quatre for a barbecue on a deserted island.
Getting around
It is easy just to call a taxi - they are not expensive and we have several numbers and all the drivers on Bequia are friendly and swift to come. There is a dollar van from the top of Lower Bay road. And there is the option of hiring a jeep for your stay or just for a few days - around USD 50 a day.

How to get there
Airport: Bequia: 5.1 km
Ferry: Port Elizabeth, Bequia: 4.5 km
Bequia is best reached from the gateway international airport of Barbados. (Miami is 3 hours 30 minutes, Toronto is 4 hours, New York is 5 hours, London is 7 hours 30 minutes, Los Angeles is 9 hours). From here take a short connecting flight to Bequia with SVG. (45-60 minutes, depending on whether it sets down passengers on another island on the way). Work has begun on a new international airport on St. Vincent which will make the journey more direct. (St Vincent is minutes on the SVG plane, or a 45 minute ferry ride or 20 minutes in a motor launch.) On departing the islands there is a departure tax of EC$45 (about US$18) per person.
