The open plan ground floor has a modern kitchen, lovely dining area and comfortable lounge with a multi fuel stove.. So even if it's your turn to cook, you can still join in the banter. A wooden staircase leads to the first floor where there is a twin bedroom and a double bedroom as well as a family bathroom, separate shower room and a second toilet. The top floor is gorgeous .... a comfy double bed where you can enjoy views of the night stars and a lovely seating area which looks out over Keldas and Place Fell. The cottage has its own garden with garden furniture for you to use and is surrounded by Lake District scenery. There are numerous walks from the cottage door so there is no need to move your car. You can tackle challenging walks such as Striding Edge and Helvellyn, Fairfield and St Sundays Crag or High Street or enjoy more leisurely low level walks such as Aira Force or take the steamer to Howtown and walk back via Side Farm tea room. Ullswater lake is close to the cottage and offers plenty of opportunities for messing about on the lake. You can can hire a rowing boat or motor boat or have a go at sailing or canoeing. Or you can take a picnic to the lake shore and have a swim or a paddle. Glenridding has a good choice of pubs, cafes and shops. There is also a National Park Information Centre, a petrol station and garage and a medical centre. Very sorry but our cottage is not suitable for dogs or pets and there is no smoking in the cottage! About the neighbourhood
Glenridding enjoys a beautiful setting at the southern end of Ullswater lake. Surrounded by mountains, there are superb Lakeland vistas and glimpses of the lake everywhere you look. The village has everything you might need on holiday: cafés, pubs, shops, Steamer trips, boat hire and sailing tuition. There is also a National. park Information Centre, medical centre and petrol station and garage. You can enjoy challenging mountain walks such as Striding Edge, Helvellyn, Fairfield, St Sunday Crag and High Street as well as more leisurely valley strolls. You can take the steamer to Howtown and then walk the lakeshore path back to Patterdale and Glenridding or explore the new off road path to Aira Force with its majestic waterfalls.
How to get there
If you arrive by car, you have two wonderful choices. From the north, you can drive alongside the lake with glimpses of the high fells. From the south, you come over Kirkstone Pass, which at 500 m offers a stunning introduction to the Ullswater valley. If you are planning to spend your holiday exploring the Ullswater valley, a car isn't necessary. There is a year round bus service to Penrith and a summer bus service to Windermere as well as a local taxi service. If you want to visit towns such as Keswick and Ambleside, a car is advised.
