Fox Cottage is a detached stone bungalow on the edge of the wonderful dales town of Middleham, renowned equally for its ruined castle in which Richard III lived with his wife Anne Neville as for its plethora of racing stables which pour racehorses out every morning to exercise on the moor.

On the very edge of the Dales National Park, Fox Cottage is the perfect base for exploring North Yorkshire or, if you prefer, just sitting by the fire reading a book ... or your emails!

Fox Cottage has a double bedroom and a twin bedroom with bedlinen and towels provided. Both have plenty of storage space to allow you to unpack properly and make yourselves at home.

The cottage was perfect for our weekend stay in Middleham, with our dog, Dixie. The accommodation is very well equipped and the garden is totally enclosed and very private. It is only a short walk to the village which has a lot to offer.

We stayed at fox cottage for two nights with our dog Ben. The cottage is great, with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Lovely walks around Middleham and great dog friendly pubs serving good food. Would highly recommend fox cottage .

Stop for 2 nights and and this cottage is very well equipped and a ideal base for exploring. A family of 4 with 2 dogs and still plenty of room. Beds comfortable and shower was great. Great setting if your looking for peace and quiet....More

About the neighbourhood
There walks in every direction and each one offering wonderful views, circular or straight, short or long - most include a wonderful Yorkshire pub on the way offering wonderful food good Yorkshire hospitality and the world famous Yorkshire beers: Black Sheep and Theakstons are both brewed in Masham ( said Massam) just 10 miles down the road.

For family fun there is the very quirky Forbidden Corner, have a look ( search for the forbidden corner) you wont have seen anything like it before! There is also Brymor ice cream just 3 miles away past East Witton where you can see the guernseys which produce the milk and sample the wonderful ice cream.
The area is full of castles: Middleham Castle (English Heritage) is on the door step. Visit it to see where Richard III spent much of his mar...
Getting around
There is a local Dales bus which goes from the centre of the village - a timetable is in the cottage. And it is entirely possible to to travel by train to Northallerton and connect with buses to get to Fox Cottage.
There is also the steam railway which runs east and west from Leyburn into the Dales and down to Northallerton.

leave A1M (NB - ignore satnav at this point as it misses the junction and takes you to an old, now defunct junction further up the A1) and at the roundabout take the second exit - signed Bedale. At the next roundabout take the first exit B6267 - signed Masham - stay on this road, which becomes the A6108, (you will pass Brymor - fab Ice Cream and teas); Jerveaux Abbey - more teas) until you reach Middleham. Stay on the road as you go through the Market Square, past St Alkelda's Church on your LHS, a further 300m and St Alkelda's is the first road on the LHS.

Leave A1M (NB - if you have an old satnav ignore it at this point as it takes you on to a now defunct old junction further down the A1)take the first exit at the roundabout signed Bedale...
