Burntwood End is very quietly situated in rolling countryside about 1 mile from Little Walden, in grounds of about 3 acres, which include a small lake which attracts a variety of wildlife. The accommodation can be rented as 2 bedrooms or 3 with additional en suite bathroom An extra fee will be charged for more than 4 guests. The Barn is well equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable stay. Many of our guests are regular repeat visitors. The location is very special. Idyllic is the word that springs to mind!

Interaction with guests
We are retired and live close by in the original farmhouse. The Barn was converted to provide comfortable accommodation on the ground floor only. Upstairs is purely roof space. You will enjoy our garden with established beds, shrubs and trees. The two large ponds attract a variety of wildlife.

Comfortable house with large beautiful garden. Very helpful, delightful hosts.Good food at a pub minutes away. Easy access to Cambridge - magnificent colleges, punting on the River Cam, Evensong at Kings College. Countryside is truly beautiful. Only a couple of hours from Seahenge.

We had an excellent 10 day stay at the Barn while we were between homes. Lots of space, freedom for our dog, privacy yet the owners were on hand for advice and a kind welcome. Comfortable and warm. We were very happy here and enjoyed the entertainment of watching the geese and ducks. Beautiful dog walks, great food and live...

About the neighbourhood
Saffron Walden is a quintessential English market town in North West Essex. It has medieval roots and is part of a designated conservation area with examples of architecture from the 12th Century including many timber framed houses and relief plastering in evidence. Nearby is Audley End, an extravagant Jacobean property now run by English Heritage. Market days are Tuesday and Saturdays. Saffron Walden is well served with restaurants, coffee shops, antique shops and general stores. There are two supermarkets.
Cambridge is a must if you are visiting the area and is 12 miles away. You will need a car at Burntwood End but the Park and Rides around Cambridge will help you to visit the city easily.

A car is essential as we are a mile from the main road and the bus service is only twice weekly. There are frequent trains from Audley End station to London and Cambridge.

Ferry: Harwich: 60.0 km
Close to the M11 and with easy access to Cambridge, Suffolk and Norfolk. Audley End Railway station gives quick (less than an hour) access to Central London. Stansted Airport is 20 minutes drive away with cheap flights with Ryanair and Easy Jet to a host of European destinations. Within 2 hours drive of Dover, and Harwich, our Barn is ideally situated to enable visitors from the continent and further afield to explore this corner of England. Easy to get to, with numerous tourist destinations for day trips from here, but a peaceful retreat after busy days site-seeing. On the borders of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk and an ideal base for touring these counties.
