The most famous are probably the well known beauty spot of Aysgarth Falls and Hardraw Force, the latter being the largest single drop waterfall in England at about 100 feet high (33 metres) The cottage is only a few minutes driving distance from the popular small market town of Leyburn with its shops pubs and restaurants. The railway line runs along the dale for about 16 miles (27kms) and a steam service operates at certain times in summer. A few minutes drive from Leyburn is Middleham with its 12th century Norman castle that was the childhood home of King Richard III.
