De Waterkant, also known as the Cape Quarter, is a bustling, colourful area with old buildings and cobble streets, lying on the slopes of Signal Hill between the historical Bo-Kaap area and the Waterfront, overlooking Table Bay. The name “de Waterkant” means water’s edge: before land reclamation moved the area back from the sea. There is still a cannon on Lion Battery on Signal Hill which is fired every day, except Sunday, at noon “the Noon Day Gun.” You will hear this loud boom from the apartment.
