On lovely sunny days (of which there are many) it's perfect to sit out at your private pool, on a sun-lounger absorbing the quite of the trees or the calls of the birds and hellos of the monkeys across the valley. Evenings are great fun at That Place - with the undercover barbeque area (what we call a 'Braai') and a very long wooden table. A fire and food, good friends and wine, what better way to end an evening under the velvety African sky ...

Great location
Very pleasant stay. The house is comfortable, well equipped & ideally located for trips out in the local area. Joanna is extremely helpful. Watching the elephants across the valley, over morning coffee, was delightful! Great birdwatching in the grounds.

Wonderful house, amazing views
Absolutely loved this house, wish it was mine! It has everything you need and so well equipped. Bed was so comfortable and shower excellent. Having a tea on the terrace in the morning and watching the elephants across the valley was stunning. So many seating areas to enjoy as well as the pool and sauna. I will be back and have recommended to my friends. (P.S. The wine we bought at the shop was so good we went back for more).

Great location, lovely views, fab house!
We booked That Place due to its great location in the middle of The Crags, with lots to see and do nearby, and it didn't disappoint. We all loved watching the elephants across the valley from our terrace and the house was a great base to explore the area. Jo and David were very warm and welcoming hosts and we felt totally at home, with lots of books to peruse, DVDs to watch and toys for the children. We lit the fire most evenings and used the outside braai one evening. We experienced load shedding during our stay and Jo and David were quick to respond to issues with the hot water supply. We absolutely recommend lunch at the Bramon vineyard next door - the best tapas we have had outside of Barcelona!

So glad you had such a lovely time here - that's the best news! Thank you for your patience with the loadshedding!! I shall pass the message on to Bramon, they will be thrilled! And thank you for the gift ... now I have to start practising ...

Our very "own" holiday house
We come to stay at "That place" so often that our young daughter calls it her holiday house. It is for us exactly that. We keep returning to the wonderful cosy house which is for us a home from home. The house has everything in it that you could possibly need, and should there be something that it does not have, David and Joanna are wonderful hosts and will sort anything out for you. The beds are comfy and the children's room is filled with books and toys, but my favourite feature is the handmade "Little Prince" wooden headboard. The house is filled with works by David and his son. The swimming pool is deliciously inviting and the deck a perfect place to laze away the Summer days.Rain or shine there is plenty to do , both at the house and in the surrounding area. There is nothing more comforting than cosying up next to the fireplace, either inside or out on a rainy day or chilly Winter evening. The house is located a short distance from all the local attractions, from Monkey land to the world's highest bungy. there is something around to suit all tastes. If you enjoy a lie in, I would recommend eye masks as the sun does shine through the curtains very early. But why not wake up and look over the spectacular gorge to the elephants out for their morning walk and the sounds of the monkeys and birds in the distance? We have stayed at That Place many times and will always return whenever we can, whatever the season. Our dogs (who are admittedly very well behaved) are also welcome and have as much fun as we do! I would highly recommend this house, but just hope that in doing so we are still able to get a booking when we need one!

Home from home
That Place was our place to chill out and relax during our trip to South Africa. This comfortable self-catering house was a respite from timetables of lodges and more akin to a home-from-home where we immediately felt at ease, with a warm welcome from the owner who lives nearby. The living, dining and kitchen areas are open plan. The property is very well-equipped, including a washing machine (though no tumble dryer). Our winter visit meant we made good use of the fireplace every evening, as well as the hot water bottles! A house-keeping service was provided daily (not Sundays). Two bedrooms are readily accessible from the main living areas with a 3rd being reached via an external staircase. The 2nd bedroom deserves special mention as it is ideal for primary age children, with a multitude of toys, dressing up clothes, games, books etc. Our children described it as 'paradise'. These same children were happy to jump in the unheated pool on a sunny winter day! There are several outdoor sitting and dining areas which must be delightful in summer. There are numerous filled bookcases with a variety of reading material, and a good selection of DVDs. The modern Sony TV has a USB port and will play mp4 formatted videos from a memory stick. The owner has prepared a file of useful information and also provided some personal eating recommendations for the Bramon Wine Estate and Enrico's - both of which turned out to be excellent. The property is only 20 mins drive from Plettenberg Bay and ideally located for exploring attractions in The Crags, as well as other places in the vicinity. Highly recommended.

Absolutely perfect!!!
This is my favorite place to visit! It's perfect for families - with everything you can think of to enjoy a holiday, rain or shine, and it's also great for just couples. That place is situated in a beautiful and private area with the most most amazing view of the elephants from its large deck! You feel comfortable and right at home the second you walk in the door. It is filled with beautiful artwork, tons of books, dvd's - everything you can think of! I love the multiple out-door dining areas, fire places, pool and sauna - even the master bedroom has its own deck overlooking the forest below! walking over to the neighboring wine estate for a tapas lunch is a must! Wonderful atmosphere, amazing value, great memories - I will be back to That Place many times!! Thanks for everything, Jo!!

The Best Place in the World!
We have stayed at That Place countless times! It is the most wonderful place for a family holiday, the kids love the pool and the freedom to explore all the land around, my husband loves the wonderful braai area David has created and I love the adjoining wine estate for a great lunch! Jo has thought of everything, from a well stocked kitchen to a room full of toys for the kids on a wet day. It is a fab place to kick off your shoes and relax, watch the ellies and take in the amazing view from the balcony or sit in front of a roaring fire and use the mountain of wood provided. We love it so much we made a special visit back to South Africa from England just so we could stay again! Really a very, very special place.

Just do it!
This is by far the best equipped holiday place I have ever stayed at. Every need is catered for and very stylishly done. The house is beautifully designed with lots of quirky artwork and handmade furniture. There is a stoep with a wonderful view over an elephant sanctuary and, if you are a bird lover, you are in paradise. You can see Knysna loeries without even leaving the premises. Fantastic! There is a really nice pool area with a sauna and a definite must is lunch at the neighbouring vineyard where you can eat tapas style dishes al fresco accompanied by local wine or champagne. If you like dogs, be sure to tell the hostess and she will open the gates for her eclectic range of hounds to come and say hello. Great location, great hospitality - thanks for a wonderful stay.

That Place is situated 19km East of the small coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, in the rural suburb called The Crags. For things to do, there is no place like The Crags. Quite apart from being able to see the elephants across the valley each day, you are spoilt for choice. Wine farms, animal sanctuaries, beaches & the sea close by, surrounded by nature ...
Getting around
As we are 19km outside of the closest town, it is essential you have your own transportation. There are no public services available like trains or busses.
