Putri, Wayan's lovely and very talented wife Putri, is our Indonesian chef extraordinaire. Guests continue to say: 'This has been my best meal in Bali' and 'I want to take her home!' Fortunately for you, she loves Bali and creates large delicious buffet style dinners using fresh garden vegetables from our organic garden and local produce bought early in the Pejeng market. Please order 1 day in advance so she can buy the fresh produce in the morning market. If you want to join her and take a cooking lesson, don't hesitate to ask! Magical stay in the rice fields
Beautifully designed accommodation 25 minutes from Ubud yet a world away from the latter's tourist hustle and bustle. Peaceful and tranquil, situated right in the middle of the rice fields and with stunning senrises and sunsets, this is the place for anyone who would like to have an experience of the authentic Bali. Lots of opportunities for walks in the rice fields and in the local village, as well as well as a wide range of cultural trips organised by charming and extremely knowledgable Wayan. Breakfast is provided by lovely Ayu and Kadek, while delicious dinners can be ordered from Wayan's wife Putri, or amazingly even ordered in from. Bali Buda in Ubud. Oh, and there's also a pool to lounge around or cool off in. A really wonderful experience, can't wait to get back there.

Magical! Must stay!
I can’t say enough good things about my stay here. The home and family compound are beautiful, clean, and very tranquil. From the moment you arrive you are treated very much as family. The owners and staff go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and giving any kind of assistance. They were available to answer questions, help set up trips, help with transportation, and shared information about the culture. The home was very clean, but come with the expectation you are sharing your time with wild life and don’t be surprised if sometimes you see ants, lizards, bugs etc. it’s part of Bali. As a solo female traveler I felt very safe. I loved it so much that I think i extended my original stay 2 times. It’s beautiful, peaceful, authentic, and a great way to experience the real Bali. I do consider it a home away from home and will definitely be back!

Discover the magic of the REAL Bali at Swallowhouse
Greetings and a big thank you to Wayan and his family for welcoming us to Swallowhouse. As mostly novices to the Bali experience, Wayan guided us through it all with his personal care, attention and beaming smile. With three grown boys we ate our way around Bali and the fresh, authentic balinese food cooked and prepared by Putri, Tiari and Kana at Swallowhouse was a standout. Pankos the dog was also a family favourite and was happy to follow along as we explored our surrounds. The fireflys over the rice fields and the distant singing from the village in the evening were a perfect end to our busy days. We miss the REAL Bali and hope to visit again one day. 100% good Karma to you all. The Palmers P.S. We hope Tiari did well in her exam !!

Peaceful retreat in the most beautiful area of Bali
My partner and I had been travelling through Bali for about 2 weeks before we stayed with Putri and Wayan at Swallow Guesthouse. It was a welcomed retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. The guesthouse is absolutely beautiful - we stayed in the 'Sunrise' room and were welcomed on our arrival by Putri with some refreshing young coconuts. It's incredibly peaceful at night and we got to see fireflies, dragonflies, and other local wildlife within the rice fields. We spent our days relaxing and reading in the hammock above the kitchen, walking around the rice paddies and the local village, and even went down to the river with Pankos (the neighbour's friendly dog who we formed a connection with - we're big dog lovers) in tow. Wayan always popped in to have a chat in the mornings and he gave us many suggestions about what to do (we were looking for a lot of down time at that point in our trip, but if there's anything in particular you'd like to do make sure to ask - Wayan had some great suggestions). One of our nights we requested dinner from Putri, and it was the best Balinese food we've tasted. Putri uses fresh ingredients that she buys from the market every morning and makes everything from scratch. She was also sure to ask about any food allergies before making dinner. There isn't a whole lot in the local area if you're not prepared to either arrange meals with Putri (which are delicious and have to be ordered a day prior) or purchase groceries and cook for yourself. If you like to eat out I would recommend hiring a motorbike as Ubud is only a short drive away. You can also get food delivered from Bali Buda - just ask Putri for the details. We would recommend this place for anyone wanting to experience the true essence of Bali, away from the 'touristy' areas. It was incredibly relaxing - we only stayed for 2 nights and would definitely stay for longer next time.

The perfect sanctuary - a slice of heaven!
I can not recommend Swallow Guesthouse enough! Set amongst the expansive rice fields in a traditional village, it literally feels like you're in another world - yet all the amenities like wifi, hot water, and swimming pool are available - the best of both worlds! Wayan and Putri are delightful people who are warm-hearted, fun to talk with, and genuinely happy to help with anything you need. Come here to rest, replenish, slow down, and perhaps create and be inspired. The sunrises, sunsets and wildlife are exquisite and there is literally sweetness in the air. If you want to venture into the small yet bustling city, Ubud is just 15 minutes away. Consider yourself lucky if you have the opportunity to experience Swallow Guesthouse.

Truly beautiful, quiet, peaceful in "real life" Bali!
This is a unique guest house situated in a small village just outside of Ubud. Swallow Guesthouse is situated in the heart of the rice fields and homes of the local people of the village. There are lots of opportunities to mingle and connect with the friendly people, many areas for walking, exploring and seeing how the people of Bali really live their day to day lives. Swallow Guesthouse creates, lives and breathes the true spirit of Bali with their special attention to helping the guests experience unique opportunities through different cultural events and amazing local food. This is not your ordinary "touristy" stay, it is much much more!

Swallow Guesthouse, Ubud...definitely the real Bali!
We stayed at the Swallow Guesthouse for three nights and four days at the end of July with our two children (aged 2 years and 3.5 years) and friends who also had young children. Our family were lucky enough to be able to stay in the traditional Javanese Gladak Garden Suite. It was perfect in every way. The house was creatively re-purposed and was well proportioned for our little family, with a large single bed tucked into a nook just slightly away from the decent sized double. The storage was adequate and decor very minimalist in traditional Balinese style. The kitchen area on the rear terrace was very basically provisioned but we had only intended on making simple breakfasts and so it was fine for our needs. The Swallow Guest house really is in rural Bali, tucked away in the rice paddies. We didn't have cars and so were very reliant on Wayan's taxi service to get anywhere. It was a good 20 minute drive into Ubud from Pejeng. The guesthouse really is the perfect place to while away your days, particularly if you have young children and want some relaxation time. We played in the lovely pool, sat on the front terrace watching the world go by and marvelling at the beautiful view, walked though the rice paddies and the village and made frequent visits to see the cows and ducks. We also had massages at the villa which were excellent. Wayan and Putri were such friendly and welcoming hosts. Putri's food was divine (we had breakfast and supper) and Wayan's depth of cultural knowledge and ability to share it in an understandable way, enhanced what was already a fabulous holiday. They were both wonderful with the children too. Putri shared out the temple offerings between my two girls for example and Wayan was always chatting to them, smiling and warm. We will definitely be returning to the Swallow Guesthouse and would thoroughly recommend it to others.

Authentic, warm, cultural and personally meaningful.
Wayan and Putri provide a welcoming, home environment. The building and gardens surrounded by the ever-present and changing life of the rice fields are at once engaging and peaceful. The space is immaculate. The food, authentic and wholesome, is organically fresh and lovingly served. Each meal is like a work of art and is delicious. Dedicated to providing an experience of 'real Bali', Wayan and Putri included us in cultural experiences of awesome beauty that inspired reverence and sense of unity. My sister and I felt safe and cared for while enjoying one of the most memorable and positive travel experiences I can remember.

Wow, this is the real Bali!
What a beautiful place. A traditional Balinese building, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The Guesthouse is surrounded by rice fields and other organic crops which are still farmed by the families of the local village. Suzan, the owner was there and she was so welcoming. She took me for a walking tour of the farm and we stopped and chatted to so many locals, had a go at planting rice, visited the fish farm and then headed for a longer walk along the channels and into beautiful bushland. She also included me in her birthday celebrations which included going to a temple at night under the full moon, followed by a magnificent Balinese feast prepared by Putri and Putuh. Amazing! A day trip into Ubud for a bit of shopping and some spa treatments was good, but it was lovely to return to the tranquillity of the Swallow. A lazy afternoon in the upstairs open room in the hammock, reading and watching the workers in the fields and listening to the birds.....and having a snooze.

Peace and Tranquility
I spent a total of 21/2 weeks in Bali using Swallow House as my home base. It really is a unique experience of Bali rural life that a tourist doesn't ordinarily see. The visitor can see scenes of daily village life and meet with incredibly friendly villagers: tending rice paddies, caring for farm animals, maintaining family shrines, village temples, and incredibly beautiful national temples. People make offerings to ancestors and local deities with their many makeshift offerings and shrines. You can witness the visible expression of a deeply felt Buddhist/Hindu religion. The stillness and starry nightlife is very peaceful. The mating songs of the bullfrogs is the only sound breaking the evening quiet. The food is delicious and Suzan, the owner, is extremely friendly, and knowledgeable about Balinese customs, history, and lifestyle.

About the neighbourhood
WALKING COURSE: Pesalakan Pejeng is the location of the ancient Hindu Kingdom that came over in the 6th century. Hidden meditation chambers and temples are scattered along the Kris River just walking distance away. Ask Putri to show you the way. Enjoy exploring (on foot or bike) the quiet walking paths along the irrigation systems and small country roads that lead from village to village. Nearby, there is a small local market and several ancient temples where you can meet the locals and enjoy their countless smiles and daily rituals. As a Hindu race, people are very giving and non-threatening to heighten their karma. They love showing you their culture and sharing the ongoing ceremonies. You may even be invited to help harvest the rice.
Getting around
There are many walking paths around the villages and rice fields to explore. Pankos, our loving dog can guide you with care!
