A very peaceful facility (if it can be called such) surrounded by a pleasant wood with the sounds of the creek ever present. Quite relaxing and a wonderful time away from our everyday hectic life. The cabin was cozy and the little propane heater kept the place surprisingly warm. The cabin is really well insulated. Just had to run it...

This is a perfect getaway for people seeking to eliminate the busy noise of everyday life. The Cabin is very minimal, which is refreshing when seeking out the forests and natural environment for revitalization. While in the cabin, with the windows open, you can hear birds chirping and the loud roar of Conglomerate falls nearby( a short hiking trail away)....

Management response:

Thank you so much for the lengthy thoughtful review! You captured all the highlights :). A reminder that there is drive in access, right to the front door of the Cabin, from early May - late November. This April visit was during the spring breakup , when the road is at it roughest. Folks ski or snowshoe in during the...

About the neighbourhood
Located in Keweenaw County, next to the Gratiot River, Conglomerate Falls is owned by the North Woods Conservancy, a Michigan and federal non-profit, river frontage, as well as proximity to other North Woods Conservancy natural areas and the spectacular Gratiot River County Park (222 acres with river mouth and over 8,000 feet of Lake Superior frontage). A wonderful area for hiking, bird watching, and enjoying the North Woods. Fishing is excellent at the natural area: the Upper Falls and Conglomerate Hole are well known trout fishing areas. Bow and cross bow hunting is exclusive to the cabin renter, and there are also hundreds of adjacent acres that are open to public hunting. The cabin has drive up access in spring, summer, and early fall, and is reached by skis or snowshoes in the... more

How to get there
Airport: Hancock (CMX): 16.0 km
Written directions and an aerial map are available on the North Woods Conservancy website, Conglomerate Falls page.. The address is 1600 Conglomerate Falls Lane; cross street is Tanskanen Road (off of South Farmers Block Road).. Key pick up and drop off is at the Ahmeek Streetcar Station in Ahmeek (2869 US Hwy 41 N, Ahmeek MI 49901).We recommend Econo Foods in Houghton for groceries, but there is also a fair grocery store in Calumet. The road is a biti bumpy with a few puddles, but it is solid ground underneath. (A contractor will grade and smooth ithe road this fall.)
