About the neighbourhood
Hokitika is the perfect place to base yourself while exploring the West Coast. All the best attractions are only a short drive away including: Franz Joseph Glacier, Punakaiki blowholes, Hokitika Gorge (take insect repellent!), Lake Kaniere, Hokitika Treetop Walkway and Shantytown. Hokitika is famous for it's pounamu (jade/greenstone) carving and there are many local galleries showcasing the beautiful stone. There are many easy bush walks close to our house, the closest winds through an old goldmine site dating back to the 1800's.
Take a walk through Hokitika town and see some of the sights mentioned in the Booker Prize winning author, Eleanor Catton's book, The Luminaries.
