About the neighbourhood
The ancient and historic town of Melrose, of which Gattonside is part, sits on the banks of the Tweed and makes a great base for any holiday in the Scottish Borders. It has a famous ruined abbey founded in 1136 and this is reputed to be the resting place of Robert the Bruce's heart.

Most visitors see the Abbey and surrounding gardens which are run and maintained by The National Trust.

The Commentators House, close by, contains artefacts and carvings which have been found in the area over the years.

The Roman history of the area is brought to life in the Trimontium Exhibition which marks the start of a 4 mile walk of the major Roman sites in the im...
