2 Bedrooms , 3 Bathrooms , Sleeps 6
Greetham, Rutland, England
Halliday's Folly, named as such by locals a hundred and fifty years ago, is a unique and historic building built in 1850 by Thomas Charity Halliday, a stonemason and corn merchant. Thomas Halliday restored and repaired churches all over the country and was in the habit of returning home with fragments of medieval stonemasonry which with which he decorated his workshop. Back in the day Mr. Halliday was a successful man employing some 47 men and 4 boys. His son, Samuel Fancourt Halliday was a one time mayor of Stamford.

The Folly has been recently restored and converted into two spacious holliday cottages. The second is a spacious studio apartment with fully fitted...

Halliday's Folly was one of the hidden gems that we found in the countryside of Rutland Water, in a village called Greetham 12 minute drive from Oakham! We stayed 3 nights for the annual Bird Fair in the smaller barn that has been restored to...More

We were so pleased when we arrived to find such a lovely home with all the amenities, but the added treat was that every room had a (new) bathroom, there was a good flow of heat throughout the house, and the beds were all large...More

About the neighbourhood
Greetham is a lovely village. Just five minutes off the A1 it's very easy to get to and is also a great place from which to explore Rutland. Both pubs in the village are within very easy walking distance and both are excellent. The Wheatsheaf is the larger of the two and has a designated restaurant area.
Plough is also great. Menu is varied and the chef has done fine dining in the past so quality is very good. They do a daily menu for which they do two meals for £15.00 week nights. Fish and chips on Fridays. Also very good is full English breakfast served until 11am Saturdays for £5.00 per head. Extra large for £7.50 but I can’t even eat all of the regular size. Friday night in the Plough is ‘locals night' and can be great fun.

How to get there
Railway: Grantham: 7.0 km
Greetham is just a few minutes off the A1. The exit is the B668 signed Oakham, Greetham, Stretton. From the North the slip road comes to a roundabout. Take the 3rd exit off the slip road and at the next roundabout take the first exit and turn left and follow the road into the village. You will pass the Wheatsheaf pub on your left. Take the 3rd right turn into Great Lane. (If you come the the Plough pub you have gone too far). As you turn into Great Lane the first gates on your left lead into the Folly car park. From the South turn left off the slip road and follow directions into the village as from North. From Oakham you will pass through Cottesmore then a couple of miles further on you will come into Greetham. You will pass the Plough pub on your right. Take 2nd left into Great... more
