Cragowlet House East.

Cottage -
3 Bedrooms , 2 Bathrooms , Sleeps 6
Kilcreggan, Helensburgh, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Scotland
Cragowlet has been completely renovated over a period of 6 years and the work was completed during the summer of 2014. The renovation involved repair and restoration of most of its original features. During this restoration the opportunity was taken to upgrade the kitchen and bathrooms to modern standards whilst retaining the feel of a grand Victorian property.

The house contains three full sized bedrooms with one twin and two doubles one of which is en-suit. The bathroom contains a bath as well as a separate shower with a 1 meter square shower tray. The lounge has 8 foot high bay windows with views over loch long. The kitchen/dinner also has views over the loch and full dining facilities for six people.

Cragowlet Cottages were built mid 1850's as a tenement of four flats for Thomas Forgan and designed by Alexander (greek) Thom...

About the neighbourhood
Cove and the neighbouring village of Kilcreggan were mainly developed during the 1860's. They were developed as the popularity of the Clyde Steamers increased as a means of transport. Many Glasgow shipowners and merchants made their summer retreats there, and this is reflected in some very grand houses along the shore. To give an indication of the people who lived there at that time James Templeton was the owner of Knockderry Castle (one of three castles on the shore rd.). James Templeton was the owner of the largest carpet manufacturing company in the word at that time. One of his friends, Andrew Carnegie, was the richest man in the world at that time and visited him frequently at Knockderry. It was during one such visit in 1901 that he penned his famous offer to fund New Yorks... more

How to get there
Airport: Glasgow AIrport: 65.0 km
Railway: Helensburgh: 25.0 km
Ferry: Gourock: 10.0 km
We are only 75 minutes by car from Glasgow city centre and only 30 miles from the Erskin Bridge. If you are determined to use public transport there is an hourly bus service, which stops outside our front door, from Helensburgh, which has a regular train service to Glasgow and Edinburgh in the west & Oban and Fort William in the North. For those arriving on a Luxury Cruise Liner at Greenock Ocean Terminal we are 10 mins by ferry to Kilcreggan then 2 miles by taxi to Cragowlet. If you are using satnav for directions make sure you are directed to the A817 near Luss on the A82 Loch Lomond road and not along the coast from Helensburgh. The coastal route along the A814 via Helensburgh is about 20 minutes longer but a very enjoyable drive if your not in a hurry. Our postcode is G84 0LS
