With its pretty whitewashed exterior and thatched roof it is set by the historic Norman church of St. George and other charming thatched cottages deep within the rural countryside.

Skirr Cottage was the home of the acclaimed writer Henry Williamson who is best known as the author of Tarka the Otter which won the Hawthornden prize for literature in 1928.The trickling stream close by the cottage was probably the inspiration behind this great literary work.

As you enter CLARE & SKIRR you are met with an immediate sense of history. Built at the turn of the last century, this is a conversion of two thatched cottages, Clare and Skirr, into one larger property suitable for family living whilst retaining it's quirky old time charm steeped in original character and untold stories.

The outside shower is a favorite with guests, wether using it to warm up while getting out of wetsuits after a hard days surfing or an early shower under the morning sun to the sound of birdsong and church bells from the adjacent Norman church.

Location is great - there are so many amazing Devon beaches nearby, perfect for surfing/body boarding and the local (gastro) pub is...

What a smashing week we have had staying at Skirr Cottage in Georgeham. We've had a mix of weather and the cottage has looked after us well. The log burners warmed the cottage up on the wet chilly day and the stone walls kept it nice and cool on the hot days. My absolute favourite thing is the outdoor shower....

Management response:
