This elegant home is situated on the banks of the river Charente in the small picturesque market town of St Savinien sur Charente, the garden leads directly onto the river, meaning you can Kayak or Canoe, or simply watch the river drift by. The house comfortably sleeps 8 guests in 4 spacious bedrooms, set over 3 floors, this beautiful bourgeoise townhouse has in addition to its 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (2 of which are en suite), a cloakroom, large kitchen opening into the dining room, separate lounge with a balcony overlooking the river, this large home is ideal for 2 families wishing to holiday together. After a day on the water, or by the sea at one of the nearby sandy beaches, come back to our beautiful, well equipped home, you will find everything provided to make your holiday carefree and relaxing, decorated and equipped to a very high standard, offering luxury and comfort in a beautiful setting, the owners have given a great deal of thought to your stay. With the silver beaches of the Atlantic coast nearby, you can surf, swim, or just soak up the sun on unspoilt beaches, you will find lots to do as we have some excellent local facilities, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, water skiing, fishing on the Charente, golf, horse riding, vineyard walks, fabulous shopping in nearby La Rochelle and great restaurants where you can sample the delicious local dishes of duck and fresh seafood. There is heated outdoor pool complex just a short walk form the house, with slides, diving boards, table tennis and a café, great for spending a lazy afternoon by the pool, tennis courts are also available in the town. We are happy to lend you our own family canoes and kayaks for your use during your stay. Leave your car at home, with daily flights in to La Rochelle and Bordeaux, you can easily catch the train to St Savinien where you will find everything you need for a relaxing or active holiday, whichever you choose. Easy public transport to La Rochelle, Saintes & Bordeaux, makes this an ideal base for families with teenagers or a group of friends who want some independence without using a car, come for a long weekend for a combination of restful relaxation interspersed with trips to La Rochelle or Bordeaux for shopping and sightseeing. The market town of St Savinien has all you need if you wish to stay closer to home, with its river, cafés, shops and restaurants plus a market for fresh, local produce. The Charente Maritime is a beautiful and relaxed part of France, with a warm and sunny climate, second only to the Cote d'Azur, where spring starts early, followed by long summer days and then the crisp cold winters have the decency to turn up late. St Savinien is a small picturesque market town, it has all you need on a daily basis, shops, boulangeries, bars, restaurants and a twice weekly market. In addition there are a wealth of activities locally, excellent water sports, cycle routes, country walks, beaches, surfing, horse riding to name but a few. The small train station is a real bonus, from here you can take a day trip to La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Saintes and Rochefort, go for a leisurely lunch in one of these beautiful towns and cities and 'let the train take the strain'.
Getting around
Based in the small town of St Savinien lots of the above amenities are within walking distance, additionally the train is a great way to get around if you wish to leave the car behind
