Cottage -
3 Bedrooms , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 5
Birr, County Offaly
The Bothy is an old-style cottage set in an idylic garden. In the evening it is all your to wander in. The Historic Science Centre in the grounds shows the history of Birr Castle Demesne and the scientific achievements of the Parsons family. The Bothy is within walking distance of shops and pubs in the charming small town of Birr. This is an ideal area for a family holiday, with the river Shannon not far away and the Slieve Bloom Hills for walking. There is an equestrain centre nearby for horse riding. For those exploring their Irish roots or wishing to tour the countryside, Birr is the ideal location as most of Ireland is within reach of a day's drive and the motorway system is now helpful in this. Birr is a pleasant small town of 4,500 people. It has good shops and stores and also a small theatre and several friendly pubs. Al... Read more

We had a really fantastic time at the Bothy in Birr Castle. The weather wasn't perfect but that didnt matter as the cottage was warm and we had a huge pile of turf to burn in the fireplace. The gardens were just recovering from a...More

Thanks so much for that. So glad you enjoyed your stay. We had given the cottage a bit of a make-over to upgrade it, and glad it was all satisfactory. Look forward to having you again!

The greatest thing about this rental is the amazing walled formal garden just out the back door and through the secret door. We had total access to the beautiful gardens and the outside of the huge castle with moat and the awesome telescope. The cottage...More
