About the neighbourhood
The bunkhouse is part of an 18 th century cottage which belonged to the smelting mill manager near ruins of Nenthead mines which is an ancient monument. The mining history and extraction of minerals in this area go back to Roman times. The C2C route runs through Nenthead and it is an excellent base for hill walking or bird watching.
Waterfalls in the area are Ashgill falls which is about a 3 mile walk away and High force situated at Middleton Teasdale.
Nenthead village is 25 miles by car from quite a few big towns such as Penrith, Hexham, Consett and Brampton and a good stop off point on the way to the lakes.
