About the neighbourhood
An eclectic community known for its artists, Broad Bay is situated halfway between Taiaroa Head (home to the Royal Albatross) and Dunedin City. With Scottish settlers making up a large proportion of its early population, Dunedin is also known as 'the Edinburgh of the South.' Boasting the country's oldest university and many heritage buildings, the city's proximity to the Otago Peninsula with its many wildlife attractions allow visitors to combine shopping, visiting museums and other interesting sites with a visit to the albatross colony, penguin colony, wild beaches or other natural attractions on the same day. We strongly recommend a minimum two-day stay to experience just some of the many tourist activities on offer.
Getting around
A car is essential for visiting the attractions on the Otago Peninsula and surrounding areas. As a small city, it is possible to walk from one tourist site to another in Dunedin.
