Easy enough to get to, but far enough into France to be truly French. Occupied by Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany and Prussia during the First World War and German Officers during the Second World War, the Château has lived through turbulent times. The gite makes up the majority of the old original Château dating from the 1700s, and is an ideal place to come to explore and sample a true taste of France. Arranged over 3 floors, the gite has a large entrance hall with oak staircase, laundry, large bathroom with roll top bath and hydrotherapy shower, a double bedroom, a single bedroom, a double bedroom in the tower and open plan kitchen/sitting room. Beautiful light rooms overlooking the river and the Château grounds with many specimen trees including an ancient Ginkgo biloba tree, walnut trees, Scots pine, oak trees and a very rare Tulip tree. Gas central heating and a woodburner are installed and keep the gite warm during the chill autumn and winter months. The gite has access to a private terrace of some 60sqm for eating breakfast outside, sunbathing or for a barbecue and sitting out with a glass of wine in the evenings. Table and chairs, sun loungers and a gas barbecue are included for your use. Although the private terrace is exclusively for your use, you are very welcome to enjoy any part of the nine acres that Château de Lucy sits in or the above ground pool which children find irresistible during the long hot summers. Ideal as a base to explore ancient cities of Reims, Saint Quentin, Amiens and of course Laon, the Capital of France before Paris. Disneyland or Park Asterix are an easy drive and rather nearer at Tergnier is a large nautical park which makes for a great lazy day out. Château de Lucy was requisitioned in WW1 by Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany and Prussia, while his troops were based at the nearby mill in Lucy. Again the château was requisitioned in WW2, this time, billeting German officers. Nowadays, the Château sits in tranquility in a region steeped in battlefield history; time and the river slip quietly by. On a hot summer's day, there is no where we'd rather be, sitting in the sun, listening to the birds singing and woodpecker pecking, we also watch time and the river slip quietly by. More
