Over the years, friends have often asked us for advice as they planned their trips to Italy. They've wanted to experience a truly authentic Italian lifestyle – Italy for locals, not for tourists – without compromising on quality and comfort. This was the challenge of Palazzo Belverde, and we have made it more than just a place to stay. It's your cosy, fully equipped home away from home in the historic centre of Todi, the picturesque hill town in Umbria, Italy's green heart. It's also your access to insider tips and guidance for exploring the region's architectural and natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and gastronomic treasures. A stay at Palazzo Belverde is an experience like no other. Because this isn't just a place to stay; you'll be living like a local, not visiting as a tourist. You'll be immersed in Todi's community, experiencing its cultural and culinary treasures. Todi, often cited as the world's most liveable city, is a beautiful medieval hill town in Italy's green heart of Umbria, and Palazzo Belverde offers you the opportunity to slow down, avoiding the often frenzied pace of running from one guidebook 'must-see' to the next. This is a rewarding way to travel. And it's probably the best way to truly experience the authentic Italian lifestyle. First built in the 14th century, Palazzo Belverde has undergone a painstaking year-long restoration. It now is a unique balance of its true medieval origins and contemporary comforts and amenities, offering you a seamless blend of meticulously preserved original features. You'll live among stone walls and arches, custom-made furniture, carefully restored antiques, but you'll also enjoy state-of-the art accommodations, including up-to-date kitchen and bathroom facilities, plus current communication and entertainment options. Our sustainable approach emphasizes our support of local businesses, and reflects the architectural heritage and design of Todi and Umbria. The décor and furnishings were chosen to represent the extraordinary local craftsmanship, including Fernando Corradini for restoration of antiques and beautiful custom-made furniture; and Deruta-based Roberto Domiziani for lava stone bathroom sinks. Conveniently located inside the mediaeval walls of the historic city centre, Palazzo Belverde features beautiful and spacious one, two, and four bedroom apartments and suites, each fully equipped and furnished with all of the comforts and conveniences an Italian home can offer. We're in the city, but the atmosphere at Palazzo Belverde is almost unbelievably peaceful. It's the perfect refuge after a busy day exploring Umbria's treasures. Our guests can park their cars for free within the walls of an ancient amphitheater, whereas the views of Todi and beautiful green - belverde - Umbria from our rooftop terrace are rather priceless. For us, hospitality is all about helping our guests create unforgettable experiences. We provide each guest with a wealth of inside information and recommendations, available only to local residents. And we organize personalised tours that allow you to discover all of the great treasure's that Umbria has to offer. After all, we want your stay at Todi's Palazzo Belverde to be a unique and unforgettable experience. Imagine yourself as part of the local neighbourhood, rather than just another tourist staying in a hotel. Imagine yourself in the midst of genuine Italian life, rather than isolated in the middle of nowhere. This is what staying at Palazzo Belverde is all about. Step out the front door and be immediately immersed in Via Giacomo Matteotti. You'll discover bars and bakeries where locals take their breakfast. You'll be delighted by the nearby restaurants: visit our friends at Trattoria Da Piero e Silvana. You'll meet the best butcher in town (try the salsiccia secca), and explore small and large grocery stores that are full of delicious foods the people of Todi serve at their own tables. Take a brief stroll up Via Giacomo Matteotti to one of the most beautiful piazzas in Italy, Piazza de Popolo, in the centre of Todi. Here, you'll find a wide array of restaurants, bars, shops, Gelaterie (ice cream parlours), galleries, a theatre, and much more. Laid out before the cathedral, this central square is surrounded by monuments evocative of the Middle Ages. Find the Gothic Palazzo dei Priori, the former seat of the Podesta, dominating a curious trapezoid-shaped tower; the 13th century Palazzo del Capitano, decorated with bays with small columns; and, from the year 1213, the Palazzo del Popolo (town hall), one of the oldest sites in Italy. Todi is an ideal base from which to explore the region, as it is one and a half hours from Rome, two hours from Florence, and less than one hour from Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Spoleto, Deruta, and Montepulciano. The city bus stop is almost directly in front of Palazzo Belverde's door, and free, gated car parking is available just a stone's throw away.
