Holiday Rental House
Le Vieil Atelier is a very spacious cottage ideally suited for up to 4 persons, young or young at heart! With two double beds (one being a sofabed) in different rooms and on different levels, if, as a platonic couple you prefer separate sleeping arrangements it is great for you too. We also have a Cot/Childs Bed, Stairgate, Highchair and accessories available for 1 small person (max height 115cm, approx. 5yrs). Created from an old workshop and attic granary within a traditional 'Longere' Farmhouse which is part of a Lieu-Dit noted in the French Government Patrimoine (Heritage) lists; parts of the property are recorded as being built originally during the early 1600's, quite possibly during the reign of Louis XIV (The Sun King). An ideal base for extensive sightseeing, walking or cycling, golf or 'wine-hunting'. For those needing to rejuvenate their batteries with peace and quiet it is absolutely perfect. Surrounded by fields, often the only sounds are that of wildlife - and the countryside. Virtually equidistant from three local towns, all boasting weekly markets, supermarkets and other modern amenities, the property is also ideally located for visiting the many and varied attractions of the Pays de la Loire including the cities of Le Mans, Angers, Nantes, Tours and Saumur with all they have to offer. The cottage has been fully renovated and equipped to a high standard including cooking and dining facilities, whilst retaining as many of the historical features as we could. Unlike many rental properties, our furniture and fittings were bought new for the gites. It has an exclusive semi-enclosed rear garden, for the sole use of the gite occupants, a dedicated southerly facing 'Front Garden' area within the Courtyard and access to most of the rest of the surrounding gardens.More

It is lovely to know that the style of gite experience that we planned is the same as our clients report...or perhaps better? P & V came on a last minute break and we were very pleased to welcome them both.

Interaction with guests
Before you arrive, we ask when your arrival time is likely to be so that we can aim to be here for you - only under exceptional circumstances would this differ. We also ask if you have any specific interests or things you'd like to do so that some of the suggested activities can be drawn to your attention. When you arrive, we show you around the property outside and do a tour of inside, drawing your attention to various things of importance or interest and are also available to respond to questions. We live on site so allowing for leading our own lives we are generally available to assist with enquiries and so on whilst you are here. Besides that, we aim to be friendly...or not, as you prefer.

About the neighbourhood
Genneteil is well placed - if it were a mountain, it would be the peak! Major Cities, autoroutes and good transport links (including rail and air) surround Genneteil on all sides - essentially less than 1 hour in any direction. Genneteil has at its heart a Norman Church, only now used for special occasions such as Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals, although it does have some beautiful ancient frescoes which were found a few years ago and restored recently. The church acts as a roundabout of sorts connecting the roads coming from all directions. Essentially a rural community, Genneteil has no particular claim to fame (except its history) but the locals are very friendly - especially if you take the opportunity to practice your French! Genneteil has a dairy from which you can purchase fresh ...
Getting around
This section is for us to tell you about public transport that you could use. In short, there isn't any closer than about 20 minutes drive - sorry, but you really do need your own vehicle to get from here to the major towns where there are buses, trains and so on for going further afield - to Paris or Le Mans for example. Taxis are (theoretically) available - but expensive, due to the distances they need to travel.
