The Quarry has featured in Conde Nast Traveller, Red Magazine, The Guardian, Real Homes, 25 Beautiful Homes, The Mail on Sunday & Grazia. Designed by an artist & a nightclub designer the interior is individual, colourful & full of stunning vintage finds. There are 7 bedrooms - 5 double or king, 1 twin & 1 single. All are large & light with great views. Comfy beds, good duvets & pillows, quality linen & original artwork add to the appeal. Two of the bedrooms are en suite, whilst the others share the 2 enormous family bathrooms. Relax in the huge original claw top bath, perfect after a day on the beach. Downstairs you'll find a vast proper 'cooks' kitchen, wonderfully equipped with everything you'll need for cooking up a feast. There's an AGA, a extra large oven with gas hob, as well as everything else you would expect. The kitchen has a seating area for 6, it also opens out onto a sunny terrace which in turn leads to the stunning original Vine Room. Relax in here amongst the vines & nectarine tree, or sit on the terrace (seating for 12, also large BBQ) looking out over Ilfracombe towards the sea. The magnificent 36ft sitting room / dining room / library has 2 sets of French doors leading onto the seaview terrace. This is perfect for kids as its completely enclosed. There's a table with 6 chairs, and a large decked area with bench & space to enjoy the sea air. Inside the dining table seats up to 14, with sofas & chairs to seat 11 in the sitting room. Warm up by the log fire (logs &kindling supplied) after a windy walk on the cliffs. The library is full of great books to read in a deckchair. There's a selection of DVDs, games & kids toys. We have a full sky package for rainy days, and WIFI. The 1/2 acre gardens are full of spots to hide away with a book. They are terraced & great for older kids to explore. The Quarry has a wonderfully warm atmosphere, & guests have enjoyed some memorable stays. Here's a few of the most popular reasons to visit: Weddings - Tunnels Beaches is just at the end of the road with its bespoke wedding venue Surfing - Woolacombe Bay is a 10 min drive, Croyde & Saunton Sands just a little further Family get togethers - theres so much space, & all the rooms are large (no arguments about who sleeps where!) Big birthday celebrations - everything from 30th's to 90th's have been held here Civilized hen weekends - try surfing, kayaking, wine tasting, or just walking & beauty treatments, Golfing holidays - play at Saunton Sands, Ilfracombe golf club, Willingcott etc Holidays with kids - there's so much to do in the area, & so many attractions to visit.More

We’ve just returned from a wonderful stay at this magnificent house. Despite the huge proportions of the rooms & the grand scale of The Quarry overall, it maintains a warmth & cosiness. You feel it has been a much loved home over the years. We...More

We enjoyed our week at The Quarry. It had plenty of room to accommodate four different branches of the family. Ilfracombe isn't the loveliest of towns but there are beaches within walking distance and the house has enough to keep everyone occupied on rainy days....More

About the neighbourhood
lfracombe is in North Devon - a beautiful and unspoilt part of the South West. North Devon is famous for its stunning golden sand beaches and clear surf - such as the 3 miles of beach at Woolacombe Bay, just a 10 min drive from The Quarry. Book a surf lesson, or just hire some equipment. There's also Croyde bay and Saunton Sands - both boasting fine sand and turquoise seas. At the end of the road, just a 5 min walk from the house, you'll find Tunnels Beaches. This is a privately owned beach (you pay a small entrance fee) with a large Victorian bathing pool carved into the rocks. Wild Exmoor, with ponies, pubs & dramatic scenery, is just a short drive.
Getting around
From The Quarry it's just a short walk to all the lovely cafes, restaurants, cinema, harbour & beaches. There's picturesque cliff top rambles to country pubs just out the back gate. For great surfing, & a huge sandy beach, head to Woolacombe. A 10 min drive, but there's buses which go there from the High Street or a taxi is about £10.
