We had a wonderful time in St Caprais, the house and surroundings are beautifully well kept. The house is brilliantly appointed with a fabulous kitchen for cooking and a great terrace for indoor/outdoor eating. More bedding and towels (including pool towels) than I've ever seen....More

The house has been carefully and lovingly restored to its original 1880s charm yet with all the modern comforts that we today expect. It is cosy, spacious, easy to maintain yet very family friendly oriented. The kitchen is very large divided into two main areas, both with large glass doors onto the terrace, its a French hand made kitchen, full of light and has plenty of space for cooking, storing things or family socialising. It has a dining area & table that can seat up to ten people and an additional breakfast table that seats four. The table is often used for kids to eat at or do their creative activities. The living room has a large modern TV with a DVD & video player and lots of movies for grown ups and little ones. It has two big leather sofas, that can comfortably sit eight people. The guest bedroom has a beautiful large en suite bathroom joined to it with walk-in wet room shower, toilet and a old style bath tub. There is also a separate toilet on the ground floor for all guests to use. Upstairs, on the first floor, there is a children´s bedroom with a big build-in hand made wardrobe with plenty of space for all the families clothes, spare bed clothes and towels & a large mezzanine above where the kids can play safely. The main bathroom has a large corner bath, which is used primarily as the children's bathroom, a toilet and two wash hand basins. The middle bedroom has an original fireplace with a mantle piece mirror hanging over it and has two restored wrat iron twin beds & has a very large original antique wardrobe for all your clothes. The two bedrooms overlook the front courtyard. There is original wooden flooring throughout the entire Upstairs. The master bedroom has a double bed, overlooks the swimming pool and the main view onto the garden. It has its own en suite and a beautiful hand made wardrobe with a huge mirror for all your clothes.

You will find prospects for almost all the places mentioned below in our kitchen drawer, with contact numbers, opening hours, etc. Here is a description of the main sites but there is so much more to do and see. The landscape is gentle and easy for long bike rides and walks, you can also go golfing, sailing, horse riding, fishing, tennis... The nearby towns of Gemozac, Pons, Cozes, Saintes, Saint George de Didonne and Royan offer all necessary infrastructure, including supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies and others. All these towns also hold fantastic markets Gemozac being held on Friday mornings and in Cozes a night market every Friday evening - a fantastic experience for the whole family. Gemozac has an activity centre for children, tennis courts and a municipal outdoor swimming pool, ...
Getting around
The most convenient to explore the beautiful area of Charente Maritime is by car, it will give you most flexibility. The towns of Cognac, Bordeaux, Saintes, St Emillion, Royan, La Rochelle are within half an hour to an hour drive and parking is fairly easy, especially if you leave in the morning. The stunning wine region of Haut Medoc is accessible by ferry from Royan, again, you can bring your car on the ferry. The peninsula offers stunning beaches and great range of sea side activities.
