About the neighbourhood
In the shadow of Acropolis hill, Plaka is called the neighborhood of Gods, it is actually the old city of Athens where you can find yourself literally walking through centuries. From archaic and classical period monuments to Hellenistic monuments, the Roman market, Byzantine churches a thousand years old, ottoman period Hammam ruins, neoclassical 19th c. elegant houses. And all surrounded by modern life little restaurants, taverns and cafes, bars and shops. In the area you can find very interesting antique shops and fine jewelry. You can eat literally in the front yard of an exquisite Byzantine 11th c. little stone church having an amazing view of the city.
