Overview
Cottage -
2 Bedrooms , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 4
Wick, Caithness and Sutherland, Scottish Highlands, Scotland
This fully equipped, semi-detached, foreshore cottage has unforgettably close sea views. All the main windows look across Sinclair Bay towards Orkney and the Pentland Skerries lighthouse and as the tide comes in across the sheltered bay, you could be watching a living oil painting of ocean surf.

Downstairs Sea Shore Cottage has an open plan living room and kitchen. Upstairs both bedrooms overlook the sea to the north with a view of the two mile long open access sandy beach at Reiss visible just beyond the restored castle owned by a millionaire. Just one field (sometimes with cows) between you. (See the Ackergill Tower website to see how the 1% live! At about £1,000 per night!)

Stop Press: Wi-Fi situation.
We have had Wi-F in both Sea Shore and Sea Otter Cottages for many years and until recently it has been working reasonably well....

Interaction with guests
We are 'retired' and live in Leighton Buzzard (Near Milton Keynes) but we have an excellent local lady who keeps the place clean and changes the sheets etc. She lives just around the corner in Tower Drive. Although we live so far away we regularly take the train from home to Wick (8.30 am -> 10 pm. Only At our age only £100 return in the off season. Or in Nov or Feb EasyJet flight from Luton to Inverness, from only £30 return! followed by the 4 hours relaxing on the Far North Railway (aged over 50, only £24 return)

We did so much that we used the cottage basically for sleeping. Kids spent time on the beach when we were there. Cottage is fine for staying in in the bad weather or just as a base. Wifi worked so kids were happy at night....More

Thanks for letting me know about the windows rusting problem. I will try to get someone local to see what can be done. So very glad you enjoyed the location. How much can be afforded for maintenance and improvements mainly depends on how many guests...More

Thanks. Every good review means more guests and more guests means a) jobs for Caithness people b) nearer to getting out of re-build debts and finally c) money to invest in the property e.g. a triple glazed extension outside Sea Shore so people year round...More

Additional Rate and Availability Information
Major discounts are available for last minute bookings (<2 weeks) when the property would otherwise be empty. Do you or does anyone you know need or deserve to be given a low cost winter break? Check Easyjet or Ryanair for some amazingly low air fares from all major UK airports to Inverness, and then use the Scotrail 50 offer for senior citizen bargains. In March we were able to take a cost-free bus to Luton Airport, and travel by EasyJet from Luton to Inverness, followed by leisurely (4 hour) but comfortable journey on the scenic Far North Line from Inverness to Wick. Total travel cost per person return was less than £110!!
If, at the time of booking, rather than just paying the deposit, you are able to pay the full amount early, then a discount will usually be offered.
By prior arrangement with our local contact, arriving earlier than 4 pm, or leaving after 10 am is usually acceptable.
An extra £15 is normally added for every person more than 2 i.e. if the price quoted for 2 p...

Sea Otter Cottage is situated in the small village of Ackergill Haven just 2 miles from Wick town centre. If driving you need to head north on the main A99 road towards John o'Groats. After leave Wick, drive past Tesco and the airfield, and about half a mile further on, just after a cafe and art shop on the left, you will see a signpost to Ackergill on your right. Follow the road straight on towards the sea. As you enter Ackergill there are some houses on the left - and after most of them, just opposite a pillar box on your right, you will see a sign on your left saying Sea Otter Cottage. Drive down an unmade road, through the gate, and start to unwind.

The front door to Sea Shore Cottage is the first property you come to, adjoining Sea Otter Cottage (also available for rental), whic...
