Located in Edinburgh’s prestigious and central New Town it is in an excellent position from which to explore Edinburgh, being less than 10 mins walk from both Princes street, with its city centre shopping and the delightful Stockbridge Area. We booked this apartment through Expedia given its location and excellent value without knowing very much about The Edinburgh Address or indeed what we had booked! In essence Edinburgh address works a bit like Airbnb providing access to a wide range of Edinburgh properties.

Following my booking, all interaction thereafter was with the Edinburgh Address who clarified the property address plus provided fuller details as to the owner / host and the property. It is a comfortable one bedroom basement apartment overlooking a courtyard and accessed through a side lane off Northumberland Street. It is one of two basements offered through The Edinburgh Address, the other being at the front of the house. The only additional thing we had to do Pre arrival was pay a deposit for damages to The Edinburgh Address.

On our day of arrival we were met at the property by the host/owner Allan who welcomed us and showed us around the apartment. The property did not disappoint. It is well...

This is a small single bedroom basement flat with a large kitchen/living room in one of those Georgian/Victorian terraces for which Edinburgh New Town is renowned. The flat is well-equipped, including a washer/dryer and a dishwasher, and has a nicely renovated bathroom with a rainfall shower (over bath). The bed was a king size, and was fairly firm although not uncomfortable, and we slept quite well. Another reason for sleeping well was the original wooden window shutters, which were intact and functional, and blocked the light far better than any curtains or blinds could. (In Edinburgh in June it is light from about 4am to 10pm!) There is an alcove with a radiator just inside the main door - I guess this is standard in this type of building - and this was ideal for drying our wet clothes.

It took me a little while to tame the central heating, which was on a complex time switch which was unfortunately set one hour out, so that it switched on a 5am with a roaring noise in...
