Neighbourhood
Known as one of Britain’s most resplendent areas, St. James’ is known for its immaculate streets, royal palace and old fashioned high-end independent shops. From the embassies and private clubs on Pall Mall to the fine tailors on Jermyn Street, St. James’ is a district of real wealth and sophistication. The classical architecture also gives the area a timeless feel. For art lovers, you can visit the White Cube Gallery where contemporary and boundary pushing art is exhibited. Fans of the performing arts can see high-calibre plays and musicals at The Harold Pinter Theatre, Her Majesty’s Theatre and The Theatre Royal Haymarket. The National Gallery sits at the eastern end of St. James’ and houses the nation’s priceless collection of public art.
When it comes to eating and drinking, St. James’ caters for every taste, often to the very highest standard, with some of the best restaurants in London residing in this district. Ikoyi gives West African food the fine dining treatment while 45 Jermyn Street (attached to the world famous Fortnum and Mason department store) is known for its exquisite menu. Rowleys are known for one thing and one thing only; steak, and they’ve got pretty got at it over the years. For an evening tipple, The Red Lion on Crown Passage is regarded as the top pub in the area, though you may prefer the 1920s-style cocktails at The American Bar at the Stafford.
Soho is an eclectic neighborhood. Mixing high class with street sass, Soho is home to some of London's best restaurants and most exclusive clubs and can easily be defined as the beating heart of London. Home over the years to such figures as Karl Marx, Mozart and The *** Pistols, this central London hub of creativity and rebellion is still exciting and buzzing with energy today. You can browse the boutique shops, relax in Soho Square, or treat yourself to a West End show, a meal and a delicious cocktail. This neighbourhood is also known for its risqué vibe. This is where you’ll find many of London’s *** shops, burlesque shows and gay and lesbian bars. Other interesting London areas within walking distance of Soho includeMore
